M7 Strut Bar - Am I supposed to feel a difference?

Because I swear, I totally do... I know, super cliche, bolt on a part, and then swear it makes a difference. Well, I was kind of surprised. Steering feels tighter, more precise. Is it in my head?

Oh, also, butt dyno reports a 20% increase in torque between 2000-5000rpm. And my car seems to glow in the dark, now.

Take it off and test it again....

Or, better yet, get a buddy and do some truly blind testing... have him take it off (or not) while you're not watching - then drive the car without knowing whether the bar is installed or not. Repeat this for several cycles, with buddy (the only person who really knows if the bar is on or off) recording your responses each time... then reveal and determine if you really COULD feel it.

Then post here.

Adding my rear chassis brace made a pretty big handling difference, gave similar results to when you add a bigger rear sway bar.....so yea you should feel something, although it will be less than in with a rear chassis brace cuz the front has more bracing with the firewall and all.

Yep... really only need to remove the bar from the plates - leave the plates on. You could probably even just unfasten ONE END of the bar... so it floats on that end - that would negate any functional effect... and leave your bonnet bulge unchanged.

Yikes, that sounds like paint carnage under the hood. Haha. I'll see if I can muster up a test and get back to ya'll.

No problem. Whatever the result, the part looks very cool.

Add the understrut system and then you'll really notice a change.

I'm running with my front bar off and I haven't really noticed a difference, at least yet.....The rear brace definitely has waaaay more of an impact.

I think there is a X brace for the R56 coming soon as well. I am waiting for that.

Not M7 brand, its a Racing Dynamics carbon fiber one....it's really nice, super light(cuz the CF), looks sick, and totally functional.

Scott,
What do you think is more effective: Going from an 18mm rear sway bar to a 22mm or adding the Racing Dynamics brace? How hard is the brace to install? Is it easily removed in case I ever need to put something large in the back with the seats down?

Thanks,
-Chris

I still haven't done the blind Coke or Pepsi taste test. Sorry. Life's a little crazy right now.

But I did take a picture with artsy blurring.

Definitely going from an 18 to 22mm sway bar, especially because a sway bars stiffness, and therefore its effectiveness, grows exponentially when you increase the diameter...a 4mm increase is huge....I'd just get both like me .....the brace installs in minutes, really easy, mounts to the upper rear seat brackets, and still allows you to use the rear seats up or down.

Do you have pictures on the install of the rear brace? Thinkin' of getting one soon... is it really that effective installing them to the brackets? I was looking on how to get to the rear strut towers easily last night, since people say it is an easy install, but only saw the seat brackets.
