Just installed a M7 strut brace on my 07 MCS. It turns like a completely different car! I can't believe I waited so long to install it.

FYI for you M7 front strut bar users... a couple of us have found that the air box rubs the bar when you engage first gear because the engine moves on it's mounts. So don't freak out if you hear a slight rubbing sound.

What kind of modification do I need to make to my alta intake to put this on?

will the JCW cold air intake effect the M7 strut tower bar?

I believe that the current M7 strut bar will not fit on a JCW intake. I spoke to them a few weeks ago and they said they were working on a bar specifically for the JCW intake. I am waiting for it as well.

You will need to cut a little notch in the round shroud on the filter. There are a couple pictures in this thread that show it.

The current M7 strut bar will not fit with the R56 JCW CAI. They say that they're working on designing a bar that will, but I haven't seen anything yet.

If you are on the fence about this, BUY IT. It is a big difference. Even the guy at the shop where I got it said I probably wouldn't notice a big difference, but as soon as I yanked the wheel going on to an exit ramp, I felt a HUGE difference. The car changes direction so quickly now. You can definitely tell it is working.

Can't be correct for US markets surely. The JCW ( both factory & tuning kit ) airboxes have the same outside profile as the std. US version airbox.

In the US, the JCW stage 1 tuning kit is different from the panel filters and therefore have a different (larger) profile.

VERY minor. You have two choices as of today. Either bend the box slightly near where the bar passes it (be sure to have the m7 bar adjusted as far forward as possible), or mark the air shroud and then use a dremel to literally carve out a passage way.

In either case, the rubber trim included with the ALTA airbox covers any marks etc.

I will try to find a few photos, of the ones we have done here.

If I can help further PLEASE let me know!

The US dealer installed JCW kits feature a larger airbox than the OEM JCW and Std. Cooper S.

M7 will be offering a new front strut brace for the larger airboxes in the form of addl. adjustment to the endfeet.

How hard is the install on this? Just a torque wrench and some elbow grease, right? It's the first mod I want to do.

Correct. It's super easy. Took me about 10 minutes. It was my first mod, too. I bought it before I even had the car.

The only thing that will take extra time, is if you have some mushrooming of the strut tops already (VERY VERY VERY unlikely) then that might take a bit to pound that back flat before putting the feet on. Otherwise 10-15 minutes tops!

Let me know if you have problems whilst putting it together. Always happy to help!

Thanks. I am also waiting for the JCW intake compatible one, since I want the stage 1 kit at some point. Hopefully it will be available soon. Or maybe I can just get the anti-mushroom plates and a JCW brace?

You can do the m7 SRP (anti-mushrooming) plates right now, then do the add-on bar later on if you want. We carry and sell it that way, just for reasons like this.

Hope that helps! Let me know if I can help further.

Confused. I have removed my JCW Tuning kit airbox and replaced it with the JCW Factory airbox with the ALTA panel filter. I can confirm these are identical sizes outside profile. According to RealOEM the factory JCW airbox is the same as the std. US airbox.

sorry for the confusion:

2007-2009 Cooper S Airbox = 2009+ Cooper JCW / Clubman JCW Airbox

2007-2009 Cooper S / Clubman S with dealer installed JCW Package is LARGER than the airboxes above. Takes different filter etc. etc. etc.

Hope that helps!

M7 bar fits my JCW - but maybe not yours.

The M7 strut bar will fit with the dealer installed stage 1 airbox, but it is tight - about an eighth of an inch between. It does rattle against the airbox a few times when I take off from a standstill, but other than that it is fine. I can deal with it until M7 produces the new connector brackets. When I spoke with them I was told sometime in Jan 09.

Because of manufacturing tolerences it may not fit on every MINI with the JCW, but it does fit mine as I described.

just got my m7 strut bar to compliment the super ags...

you can see with in my picture that i put some rubber weather strip because they were completely in contact with each other. For being complimentary aftermarket parts, you would think it would clear properly...

regardless, very happy with the setup. if there is nothing to be gained, +1 on the bling factor.
(i dont know why the filter looks grey but its really red!)

Nice, pillar. I have the Super AGS and strut brace, too. But I have not been able to mount the brace. With the brace forward, it clears the AGS, but makes a noisy racket during acceleration and in reverse. With the brace to the rear, it further clears the AGS, but doesn't clear that engine component with the yellow label on the driver's side of the bay (not sure what it is). Funny, no? I will have to try pillar's weather striping solution with the brace forward.

I found that the strut brace rubbed my AGS-R. After trying a number of fixes I found the best thing was to apply strips of self-adhesive felt to the underside of the brace. It's been a few months now, and no problems so far.
