^^If that is the case, I would love a step-by-step guide to installing coilovers

Kinda, some systems use parts from the stock towers so it's not just replacing parts. Here are two links to review. Many owners have done them at home without issue. I'm working with Megan to get a step by step for that system. Not all system have or need the rear damper adjustments.

Here's two links to review for install info.

Hope that helps, AXC

Yes, I've read the BC install thread....good info there. I'll read the txwerks one soon.

Another question: I see that the Megan set has top hats for the rear shocks, but the BC unit comes with a new one. Any reason why since they are basically the same units. $1000 for the BC ones, $900 for Megan....

I'm just trying to decide which set to go for and obviously $900 beats $1000.

Thanks...

The difference between the BC and megans is not just the fact that the bc's come with rear top hats. The compression/rebound adjustments are different. There is about 3mm more suspension travel with the BC and they are an all around beefier coilover in comparison.

I am simply stating that the bc and megans are not the same and this should be noted when shopping for a coilover setup.

This was my ride height...no idea how much lower it is than stock. I still have a few threads left. It's probably a little more than 2.5 inches lowered over all.

Could you go into a little more detail about how the adjustments are different and how they're "beefier"? (They certainly look similar.) Is the compression/rebound ratio the same? Rebuild for the BC is $95 per, right?

Another person trying to decide between the two. TIA.

The megans run a 44mm piston and 50mm overall shock housing. The BC Br series utilize a 46mm piston and overall 53mm shock housing. There are 2 less adjustments for damping 32 megans vs 30 on the BC's but the overall adjustment range is greater.

They are currently offering replacement dampers for $95 instead of rebuilding.

Here is a link to a youtube video with 2007 speed world challenge champion Randy Pobst lapping a mini at Daytona with the bc setup:

Randy Pobst on BC coilovers

Any other questions feel free to ask away.

Thanks,
-Cliff

the bc front dampers are all steel. the megans use aluminum damper holders/sway bar attachment fittings..

Coreyblimey has the BCs, similar coilover (despite differences ), autocrosses them regularly. I'm sure others do as well.

I am in the process of installing my BCs, and will be autocrossing on them as soon as the season starts back up. I'm very hopeful.

HELP!

I recently purchased a set of Megan's from Dustin at AutoXCooper (great seller by the way). I brought them to a local shop that I've been working with for a long time to get them installed. However, we hit some problems.

Just by looking at the camber plates and my strut tower, the guy said camber adjustment will pretty much impossible without trimming the strut towers. I suggested things such as using ball-end allen keys and moving 2 of the bolts to the middle holes, but he insisted that he wont be able to get enough torque on the bolts with a ball-end allen and low clamping force when the 4 bolts are really close together.

So the question I have is...how many of you have trimmed your strut towers? I've asked aroudn before, and Rally said he didnt trim his, but Meb said he DID have to trim a little.

Thanks!

Check the BC thread for some more cut / not cut:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=93463

I have yet to install my fronts, but I bought some replacement bolts, hoping that I will be able to get a wrench underneath and adjust camber, w/o any trimming. Here's hoping at least.

Ya mean like this.....Yes I had to trim some if I wanted to get any camber adjustability. I can get 2.5 drgrees as it is now, which should be just fine...it ain't pretty but it will work.

Wow, that's a bit of trimming you did there. I really hope I don't need to trim as much.

What I still don't understand is...you and mct both have the BC racing coilovers. However, in the BC thread he showed that he was able to get 2.2 camber without any cutting, while you had to trim the towers to get any adjustibilty. Are built differences really that great between cars?

I actually should have said that if I wanted to get the allen wrench on it I had to cut the towers. There was just no way a wrench could be put onto those allen acrews. Even a ball end wrench would not have worked, and if it had I would have worried about not being able to get enough torque on the screws on such a steep angle.

How much do you charge for an install, cables in the rear and the whole deal for an '05 Cooper S? Does it include alignment? What else should I know? And, how many installs have you done?

Take it from someone who's never done this before......try doing it yourself. It wasn't that hard and all's you need is a set of tools. Yeah the shock tower doesn't look pretty, but that was a necessary evil....

Hey S Driver,
Nice suspension bits. Besides adjustability control, did you notice significant stability and increased "groundedness" from the upper and lower control arms?

I noticed your running you're running exclaims. Are you liking them?
thanks
