Stock Problems/Issues Discussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).

does it seem like there are very few problems with the R56, at least for a new car?

does it seem like there are very few problems with the R56, at least for a new car? don't get me wrong, i do see a few complaints here and there (engine noise in the S being one) but for a new car from the ground up it seem like the issues thread is quite dead. it is a little more active over at mini2 but the US thread is very quiet. any thoughts?

Honestly it takes time and mileage for many things to emerge in my experience (and it can vary quite a bit based on how the car is driven/treated - plus there is the good luck/bad luck factor as with any car).

I guess I am having pretty good luck. I just rolled to 4200 miles this weekend and I have been driving it pretty hard. I have not had any problems at all. Nothing, no rattles, moonroof noises, engine noises, power problems, or anything.

Sometimes the good news never gets heard.

Still early to tell, but they are off to a good start.

Took me 25k for my 05 to really turn on me and be in the shop once a week. Once a few hundred are out of warranty you'll be able to tell.

SO far, judging from the posts here, it seems like the only consistent complaints are (1) sunroof noise and (2) inconsistencies with the specialo compartment being locked/unlocked/rattling. I would not call the engine tick a "problem." Rather, it is the normal and not loud sound of the injection system. Some people call it a problem because they think it is valve tap.

Alos, it seems that the above two problems have been remedied.

The random cruise control disengaging seems to still be up in the air.

The other things seem to be one off things which are either manufacturing errors, or dealer prep errors.

But it seems Mini is being pretty agressive about fixing issues in manufacturing, rather than waiting for a next model year run. Not a cheap way to do it, but definately a customer service oriented way. I like it.

Maybe the cc disengage is MINI's way of making sure you are awake.

The only "non-problem" my car has had is it seems that when I turn OFF the ASC, and then proceed to do an aggressive, rev-limit-smacking burnout, the ASC will turn itself back ON! I'll have to re-push the button to turn it back OFF. No idea why it does this, but it's annoying.

I haven't had my cruise shut off on me and I use it daily on my interstate commute. My upper compartment rocks, and there are zero rattles or squeaks despite my bass-heavy exhaust.

Nope, no "real" problems here! I figure at >1500 miles a major mechanical failure would've shown up by now, especially being driven like a branded bull, LOL!

You have a great deal of courage, I would never have the guts to post something like this, I would only jinx myself.

They had the car earlier in the UK...I think it's a deliberate strategy to sort out earlier build issues where they can be dealt with easier (they did the same thing in '02). Makes for some interesting discussions on MINI2, though.

On the U.S. front I keep hearing alot about check engine lights going on...a software related issue. Not a huge deal it seems.

I've got one of the 1st R56's released for public sale in the UK (chassis 759) and have had zero issues with it. I haven't been back to the dealer at all. I am very, very happy with the car and its build quality, and yes I do have the gap over the front wheel arches which I believe was sorted out before US orders were taken.

With a regular cooper of our own on the way, I have been scouring over these formus (NAM and mini2) looking for major problems folks might be having. With the exception of S owners, I have found none worth noting.

SHUTTING OFF IN TRAFFIC?? really?? please post links to ALL those discussions please so we all can take a look. in fact it looks as if you have a 2006 R53 and you are the one with the shutting off in traffic issues. from your inaccurate post here in the R56 threads it looks like you are also suffering from alittle late R53 buyers remorse?
