MCSa throttle hesitation
MCSa throttle hesitation
I have an '06 MCSa with a 15% pulley and intake. Recently, I have begun to notice a seemingly worsening throttle lag, especially on the highway. It manifests itself as a 2 second (one one-thousand, two one-thousand) period of about 75% throttle, even tho I have her to the floor (against, but not triggering the wonderful magical downshift button). It then spings to life and gives me full throttle with no change in input from me. I almost think it's anticipating a downshift and pulling throttle as it does when it shifts. What results is a lousy choice of a pause while it decides whether or not I really meant to floor it, or a pause while it downshifts (and takes its sweet time) if I push the magic button
. This is not much of a choice in traffic when I need to get out of the way of something big.
So, my questions: Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Is there anyone who makes any software to change the transmission or throttle behavior? Is there a non-dealer route to reset the tranny to its defaults? Does anyone think it would work if I just tied a string to the throttle body and yanked it every time I REALLY want full-throttle
? (of course I'm kidding)

I've used ecu flashs in the past to get rid of strange quirks of the car and I am hesitant to try again. But if people are saying this one in particular is cured I just might.
I guess I have learned to use the tranny to over ride some of its quirks. Such as when I want to accelerate rapidly on the road I downshift via a paddle rather then giving it gas to force a downshift.

Have you tried driving it in manual mode agressively for awhile? The adaptive software should reflect that input in auto mode after some use.
I do use the paddles most of the time as it really gets the most performance out of the gears, and its more fun, so I can't say that I've had the same issues. If it is a continued degradation though no matter what you try vs a set behavior that has been the same I'd consider taking it in for service.

Similar thing occurs with me when in SD mode when coasting in the 3800-4200rpm range and need a little more acceleration. Currently working with a ECU tuner to see if this can be dialed out.
I should have been more clear in my original post that this happens in manual mode especially. Usually, if I plan on pulling out in front of something big, I select my gear ahead of time. This will also be very relevant on the track (spare me the "auto on the track" flames, I also have an S2000, I would just like to beat on my mini too
)
The adaptive part does work against me for sure, as I drive A LOT of highway miles where I try to get the best gas mileage (25k miles in 6 months-the pennies add up).
In terms of the MTH threads, I couldn't find anything specifically relating to this issue or tuning throttle response on the MCSa. Not that it isn't there, it's just difficult to wade thru the, uh, extra stuff. Is there a specific thread you were referring to?
Thanks for the responses!

By the by, throttle lag due to the way they have drive by wire has been an issue with both manual and auto cars as I have experienced it in BMWs (the MCSa is fine compared to throttle lag I've had) - on other cars I have heard of various ECU tuners helping reduce it. Changing the behavior of the auto software is something else (which I had at one time with Dinan and it worked well) but I don't think the MCSa needs that beyond increasing the rev limit - someone really should do that.
