THUMP when door locks go down?
THUMP when door locks go down?
I keep forgetting to post this, but finally after nearly 3 years I remembered today..
THis has been happening since the car was new, 2004 MCS.
When my car reaches 15mph (from getting in it in the morning) the door locks come down, and as they do, my rear speakers (at least I think it's them), and something else in the driver's door does a big THUMP, very similar to a speaker short circuiting.
It used to happen frequently in the beginning, then only happened about 2 times out of 5, now it's very rare, but it still happens sometimes... anyone else get this?

Mine always thump as they lock but I wouldn't say it's coming from the speakers but inside the door. I don't usually start up with the radio/cd player on. So, I'm not sure we are hearing the same thing

I think you may be hearing the ABS system do a self-test. There is a FAQ article at MINI2 on the subject.

It happens right about the same time that doors lock. I can hear the clunk almost every time the doors lock. Sometimes it's not very loud so it would be easy to miss. It's a nice reminder that you have a little help when it comes time to really stomp on the brakes.

I have not heard it in the other 12 or so MINIs that I have driven.
