Sunroof

Does anyone have a fix for the partial sunscreen on the factory sunroof. Seems a bit crazy that the sun will be shining on your noggin all the time and there is no real way to completely shade you without buying those temporary reflective sunscreens for $50.00

I've also read that others are getting a different sunroof from another company other than the one that comes with the premium package. What is the deal with that and can you have the factory install it?

Thanks

Another thing you could do if you find the mesh not doing a particularly good job of screening the sun is to have a darker tint applied to the sunroof glass.

I pinned a bandanna to the mesh- temporary remedy, not sexy in the least, and you can't roll it up that way, but it got the sun off my head! Down the road is an opaque roof graphic.

I tinted mine. Still to much sun here in sunny Florida.I cut one of those windshield screens in half to make do without paying the $50 for the one you have already found. I see a roof graphic in my future as well.

I live in Southern California. I often carry valuable musical instruments in my MINI and have to leave them for some time in the car. They can't get too hot.

I bought a bunch of small thin reflective sun shades -- silver lexan on one side, spongy foam on the other -- from a 99-cent store...

They are big enough to cover the windshield and have folds for storage.

I fold the shade over itself enough to cover the inside area of the sun roof well.

Then to install it, close front sun roof, then hold the sun shade up as you close the mesh to hold it in place. One fits similarly under the rear fixed sun roof payne.

When not in use, they fold up neatly into the mesh storage bags on the back of the front seats.

For $2.00, it works very nicely, stays in place, isn't a total eyesore and keeps the heat out as well or better than the rest of the roof.

I also have 2 more, one for inside the windshield and one for the back window.

It works!

Best,

-- Don

I have my sun shade on order from Stratmoshpere and should arrive any day now. I bought it for the front only so we shall see how it works when it arrives!

Even though I love the sunroof, this was one of the main reasons I decided not to get it... It seems weird they wouldn't have plastic pull-over things like in most cars!

I put limo tint on my sunroof and as dark as legal on all others. I'm fair skinned and get sunburned in rush hour traffic and so far, I haven't had any problems what so ever.

help is on the way...I hope

I made myself an opaque shade that installs in place permanently...you can make the roof fully opaque, or not, or can use the mesh shade too as normal, or not; it is basically invisible when not in use and does not prevent opening closing the glass roof....requires no drilling or modification and is easily removable if you wanted to for some reason and takes up basically none of the sunroof visibilty....you can even easily make the front of the sunroof opaque and leave the mesh shade up overhead so light filters in behind you but is not glary in front of you....and the reverse side is reflective to help keep the car cool in the summer sun

I have had this up and operational in my car for a year and have been trying to get it produced...I am trying to find a manufacturer within the MINI community who is interested in this project....I think there should be enough of a market for this, as it was even mentioned as a shortcoming of the MINI by Road and Track ( or was it car and Driver?) and have heard from others that they would buy something to address this shortcomnig it there was a fix for this.....I am not a manufacturer, just a MINI enthusiast who tinkered with a fix for my own car and came up with something that I think others will like....now if only I can find a company to produce it.....any suggestions out there??
