Mini Window Problem

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I just picked up a 2003 Mini S with 20K mile, and the driver's window doesn't even try to open. The switch seems connected because I can see a slight dim in the interior light when trying. The fuse is fine I even replaced it in hopes that was the only problem. Per another thread on the NAM this seems to be a problem. Can any one tell me what the new motor is going to run and can a regular BMW dealer put it in? The 3 year warrenty is over due to the Nov 2002 original delivery date.

MINIs come with 4 year, 50,000 mile warranties....so you should still be covered if Nov 2002 was the delivery date.

Mini Window Problem

I have a 2004 and experianced the same problem, twice! Stopped by Mini of the Main Line to complain. The Service Manager said it is a common problem. Contacts on the motor corrode and the motor armature sticks (or something like that). The service manager said to give the inner door panel a hard rap with your fist on the 3:00 position directly over the screw hole at the front of the arm rest. One rap and the window worked fine. Happened again 6 months later (two days ago), I gave the door panel a rap and bingo, window works fine. Made an appointment to have the motor replaced under warranty. Give it a try.

Thanks for the info, mine (March 04) stopped working today, 2 hits to that location got it working again.

Cheers

Mine stopped working two weeks ago. Took it in and they replaced the motor and regulator for free.

something similar happened to me. My driver's window makes a clicking noise when going up and down. Hasn't stopped working yet, but Mini says it is the regulator, it will be replaced as soon as the part is ordered.

As a chiropractor you can imagine my joy when I heard 1 good thump would fix it. Even better was the look on my wife's face as the previously dead window slid down gracefully. Thanks NAM for making me look like a hero.

You rock! I just tried this trick and my window is working again! I've dubbed it the Fonzi method.
Mil gracias!

Mine just decides to magically start working again on cold SoCal days and then will keep working for weeks or months and then fail for weeks or months. This morning at 34 degrees it started working again after weeks of hibernation.

Ayyyyy!!!!! My 2003, with 147k went "click, click"... Fonzi, you're the man! (That was so much easier than replacing the superchager!)

My passenger side window just started making a loud clank when rolling up or down. It's catching on something because it will push the door lock up when it rolls up.

I've lived with this problem for a few years. This appears to be a heat related problem. The passenger window in my '04 MCS has never failed in cool temps, but only during hot summer days. It also seems that on those hot days, if I open the windows in the morning when it is cooler, then they will work all day.

Thanks so much for this info, when I get home I can finally fix this (slightly) nagging problem on my car. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, although lately it's been in the NOT working category.
