Help! Rain screws up remote locking?

I came out yesterday morning to find the sunroof and windows completely open. Once again I had sat on the key and accidentally opened the roof etc from inside the house. It had rained overnight. The first hard stop I made resulted in water pouring out from the headliner where it meets the windshield just ahead of the rear view mirror. Now the remote locks don't work and I suspect the remote receiver is wet. The locks work normally from the dash switch, but the buttons on the keys do nothing.
How do I get the rear view mirror off on an '05 Cooper S? I think the FZM module for the remote is built into the mirror mount and is not behind the headliner as shown in the MINI repair manual.
Part of the sunroof track drains water right into the headliner. Water was seeping out all around the sunroof trim inside the car. Something not right about this...

You can remove the rear-view mirror by rotating the base about 45 degrees to the right, so mirror is aimed towards the passenger seat, should just drop down.

Once again
This has happened before to you?

You might want to disable the feature that allows window and sunroof opening with the keyfob. Is that something the dealer can set? Either that or stop carrying those keys in your pocket!

I drove in the rain for a while with the sunroof in the tilt position, resulting in water pouring down my back when I hit the brakes. It dumped from the sunroof track as you describe, so it's probably normal.

The mirror is a twisting mechanism, thereciever for the keys is in the back half of the mirror on 05 and newer, repair manuals thus far only cover up to 04. Ive had the water dump down my back but didn't realize going foreward would get water into the mirror, also besure to get the headliner mice and dry.
