Oil Filter Housing - Cooper & MCS

It is my understanding that while the engines are the same, minus some internal differences, the oil filter housing for each is also slightly different.

Can someone confirm this?

And if indeed that is the case, what exactly is different between the two?

Lastly, what is the reason for the difference?

I appreciate your thoughts, thanks!

Hi Tony,

there is a difference, but I can't see it! I went to REALOEM.com...

Yeah, I thought so... Any idea as to why there might be a difference? Thanks Matt. Where is GreatBear?

The S

has a oil/water heat exchanger, and the base cooper doesn't. Why the housing is different I have no clue, as the filter cartridge is the same....

Lifes little mysteries!

The after market places like MiniMania and others state that the same element fits both the MC and the MCS. Perhaps it is a different part number for the housing because it is on a MCS vs. MC?

Apparently inside the Cooper housing there is a black plastic center tube that can be romoved with a 19mm socket... but not so on the MCS (not removable)?

I'm heading-out for today guys, but I'll check-in later.

Really, GreatBear is awesome, and hope he sees this...

It is true, the MC is not the base MINI, that would be the MINI ONE. MINI USA doesn't import the MINI ONE to the USA.

At the factory they consider the MC to be the factory hot rod of the MINI ONE. The MCSis considerded to be another beastie all together. The JCW MCS is the factory hot rod for the MCS.

Here in the US...

There is a base Cooper and a Cooper S (with or without JCW). And in Europe, there is a base Cooper as well, as the lower options go by the name of the Mini One or One D!
