I came up on a turn really quick and had my right blinker on. I noticed when I stopped before I made the turn that my right blinker was blinking very fast. The noise that accompanies it was also very fast. After the turn I hit the left blinker to see if I just never had noticed the speed of the blinker. It was the normal speed. I switched to the right…still fast. So I drove a few seconds and tried again. Both now at the slower speed….


Weird or normal??

 

Probably either a bulb going on the right side or a ground problem with one of the right side turn signals.

 

Ya got a burned-out bulb!

 

Definitely a bulb going out.

 

That is a "signal" that you need to replace a bulb on that side. So, ditto ^

 

I had the same thing happen in my old pryzm when I replaced the blinker with the wrong bulb. When I got the apropriate bulb things went back to normal.

 

Yep just like everyone says, bad bulb, Annoying as heck isn't it? :P I had one that was good, then did that some, then was good, etc for awhile on a bimmer before I could replace it and it drove me batty!

 

Think of it as a feature, not a bug!

Consider yourself lucky. When the bulbs on my Lotus Elan used to burn out, the entire lighting system would go down (very dim output) and if not rectified quickly would lead to overheating on the electrical system's wiring and potential fire / meltdown as consequences.

That Lotus was one hot ride.

 

Ok get this..it only did this last night a few times and hasn't since. When I was @ the dealer today the tech couldn't find a bad bulb...Maybe its telling me of a future bulb failure?

 

Hmm...a glitch in the GM it seems like. :\

 

That's what happened to me in a BMW, I was trying to say that in my post but I can see that its not clear - for me it just was that the bulb was on the way out but somehow not dead yet. It gave up the ghost within a few days as I recall.

 

when mine did this, it was the BC1 module that died. The bulbs were fine. I think when it senses any problem in the blinker like a burned out bulb or a short, that the blinker speed increases to give you warning.

 

when we had to walk uphill both ways to school , the fast binking was because the blinker was governed by a bi-metallic spring. When it got hot, it opened and then cooled to close. Loosing a bulb meant that it didn't get as hot, and cooled faster.

Greatbear might know (he seems to have some inside knowledge into the tech stuff) what the BC module is doing in case of a bulb failure....
