Schroth Harness Install

I'm trying to install the passenger harness and the Torx screw on the rear seatbelt (near the rear wheel) is not coming out. It feels like the backing plate holding the bolt has come undone and is spinning. How easy is it to access the plate from underneath the car?

thanks!

If no one answers this by tomorow, I'll go out in the AM and have a look at my car. No back seats anymore so it will be easy for me to see what might be going on.

PM me if you don't hear from me by noon EST

Thanks for the help! I tired to take a look under the rear wheel well, but couldnt see where the bottom of the bolt ends. I just hope that I don't have to pull off the whole rear sub frame to get at it. I'll also call my Mini dealer tomorow to see if they have any ideas.

This simple install is turning into a big project :(

thanks!!!

I don't think it is accessible from the exterior of the car. I believe you have to remove that interior trim piece to get to the back side of it.

The Bentley manual only shows the older selt belt slider bar, which mounts to the floor.

Here's everything you need to know:

The back bolts are a real P.I.T.A. They are stuck with grime and sealant and need major force to move.

Thanks for the reply! I've seen these instructions, but I am using the Mini specific harness which uses the seatbelt bolts.. that's the one that won't move.

thanks!

rear seat belt bolt

I was under my MINI (for other reasons) one day, and I noticed the Schroth bolt, as it was a different color from the stock ones and I was trying to figure out what it was. So at least on my USA 2004 MCS, you can see the drivers side rear seat bolt from the bottom with out removing anything.

As for getting a grip on the "nut" I bet that won't be easy. I think I would find a way to make it the dealers problem, then after it is fixed, put in the Schroth.

(I have the original bolt for the car in my glove box, so I can put it back in some day).

Thanks John!

On my 2003MCS the bolt is a black torx. Where underneath the car did you see it? By the top of the shock tower bolts? Rear subframe bolts? I took a quick look when I was swapping to my new rims, but didnt see anything.

thanks!

Seat Belt Bolt

As I recall, the bolt is through the side of the seat pan. Under the car I think it was in front of the sub frame.

I found where it comes through, if we are in fact talking about the rear seat outside torxs. If you jack up the car (use jackstands please) you will see it come through just behind the rear subframe. Not sure why it is just spinning unless the bolt stripped as the reciever is welded to the body.

Let me know if I can help more as my car is still up on jackstands for a few days
