If you had $500 to spend on your car......

what would you get? I just got my last years bonus, and my wife and I each get $500 play money...... The rest goes to the bills. (yeah,it was a nice bonus!)

So, I was thinking an OBX header and racing cat..... But then I can't affort a cat-back system. I already have a pully, HAI and all the stuff listed below (and I just did a Bluetooth hands free kit!). Any suggestions?

Matt

I've got camber plates already....

so the understeer is significantly lessoned. Also, I'm not a fan of buying a header then choking it witht the stock cat.... so if I do the header, it will be with aftermarket cat (~$200). I was also thinking of ajustable rear control arms.....

decisions, decsions.....

If I had such a choice I would look into a good brake kit.

However, I recently went to Jiffy Lube and that cost me $283. Last week, my mechanic tuned my car and, fortunately, did not have to change any fluids and that cost me $799. $500 would have gotten me less than halfway between the two services. That's depressing.

I just remembered that I got a year end bonus. But I don't recall what I did with it. That's even more depressing.

Time for some ice cream.

Some food for thought, Doc.

19%, GIAC, & 380cc injectors if you want to add a very noticable performance boost (ok, that's more like $800); or,

Some nice lightweight rims. I drove a stock MSC with some SSR lightwieght rims, back to back with my modded MSC running the S-heavies. That stock MCS' acceleration was darn good.

You know I'm a big fan of the OBX-- can't go wrong in my book. It and a CAT would also be good for performance. However, with an aftermarket CAT, your exhaust is going to get louder-- not a lot louder, but will be a deeper tone loud. I have no idea how it will do with a 1-ball though?

BTW, I was under the car yesterday checking the header, welds and OEM CAT. After 4 weeks, everything is still good. The CAT is still good, and that butt-weld I did from the header to the CAT is holding up fine.

I have a new MTH flash for 380cc injectors & my 19%. Waiting on injectors to arrive. Once installed, I'll be able to assess how well Franz has programmed for them... if that goes really well, then I'd withdraw the GIAC from the first recommendation.

Definitely not the header. (Due to stock cat and One ball exhaust)

Definitely Rspeed rear swaybar and next, lower rear adjustable control arms so you can fine tune your rear camber- you must be about -2 degrees right now which is too much for the rear. When you did alignment for the front camber plates what did you get for final front and rear camber and toe settings? Do you track or autocross your MINI?

I pretty much agree with Minihune. If you really don't have the rear sway bar then that is a must to get. (I like the H-sport comp). Since you have the front camber plates, not having the rear control arms would be the same as using a header with stock catback, silly. I put both upper and lower Alta control arms on my MCS and it was a great improvement.

How about something that makes the car a little nicer to drive - a Whalen. You can spend all you want on go-fast goodies but the notchy shift mechanism takes some of the driving pleasure away. The Whalen solves that. If I could keep only one thing on my car, this would be it! If you still have the stock exhaust and want something a little different without spending the dough on a cat-back, do a one-ball conversion. If you don't want to hack into your exhaust, I am sure a lot of people here have their stock exhausts for sale - I just sold mine for $25 and there are a few on Ebay right now.

Do you have an iPod? Maybe get the iPod adapter or the XM/Sirius Sattelite radio.

no question. Definitely the rear swaybar. if you track your car might want to look into the H-Sports but if you street like me, the 22mm alta works pretty good with the H-Sport springs at the stiffest setting.
