Purchased New HPFP
Purchased New HPFP
Got a newly rebuilt HPFP service@hpfp-mini-cooper-rebuilt.com. The car was running on the low pressure pump alone (oddly without misfires, but obviously in limp mode). I am a cheap shade tree mechanic. I had hoped it was everything but the most expensive piece under the hood on these things. It was not. The thermal expansion cup/spring measured out at 27mm on the old one after I got it off. No bueno apparently. The new measured out at 11mm.
So far it has been a pleasure to deal with service@hpfp-mini-cooper-rebuilt.com. However he is in Canada so it takes a few more days to get the pump.
The car is running wonderfully now, I just need it to make about 3000 more miles until I can do the timing chain in a few months. Thanks for the suggestions for my previous posts on the matter. Also the metal thermostat housing and crossover pipe from ECS are performing well.

Time will be the judge on the rebuilt pump. However, rebuilder advised that he has replaced all of the wear parts in the pump, and properly filled it with oil. The cost of the rebuilt pump is approximately 1/3 of the cost of a a semi reputable pump from one of the big box auto parts stores. I did not even count the Amazon pumps as so many people seem to have had so many problems with them.
when I get back to my receipts, I will post the price and link to the rebuilder’s website. I’m rather surprised that he is not on this forum.Really the only slightly negative was it took about seven days for the pump to come in via UPS ground.
