Another fuel pressure question.

Hello all. I have a 2011 r56 with the N18. It has been plagued with misfire codes and low fuel pressure codes. I replaced the hpfp with a rebuilt one from detroit tuned and it worked for a couple months them the problem came back. Figured it couldn't be the hpfp because it was so new so I replaced the lpfp and filter. No change. So I replaced the hpfp again with one from the guy in canada that repairs them (dominique). This time it worked for only around a month before it started having the same problems again. I can't have this bad of luck with hpfp's can I? What is the next step I should take? Would it be something other than the fuel pumps?

My gut says HPFP. If you’ve replaced the pump and the issue went away, it’s the pump.

The forum rumor is that the rebuilt pumps just don’t last as long as the factory fresh ones. I would bite the bullet and get a brand new PSA pump from ECS Tuning or FCP Euro. You’ll get a full warranty also.

Our pumps were rebuilt from that guy so it was/would have been under warranty. we are stopping carrying them due to issues just like this. sadly he is too busy and no longer tests them. early on they worked much better, now a days all of the vendors that carry his pumps are having issues. so we are just going back to factory OEM's, less problems, simple warranty. costs a whole lot more, but the run around is not worth the time. sadly you need a new HPFP it sounds like...

Interesting. I couldn't produce the code you required for a warranty replacement unfortunately. I produced every other low pressure code though. I have been communicating with Dominique and will probably just send the pump back to him for a refund and get a new one although it is going to kill me to spend that much on a pump.

I see that the "neo brothers" on ebay are selling brand new ones for around $700 with a 1 year warranty. Supposedly they are a UK mini dealer. I know that there is a longer warranty with ECS or FCP but they cost a few hundred more. Decisions...

Ended up going with FCP. They have a lifetime warranty. That is huge with a finicky thing like the HPFP.

Also had a conversation with "Neo brothers" on ebay. He said that the main reason for failing HPFP is contamination in the fuel that the regular fuel filter doesn't catch. Makes me wonder is a filter can be placed right before the HPFP as secondary protection?

Ot sure I buy that one. I bought my Clubman used with ~35k miles on it, and the fuel pump went out shortly after, before even hitting 40k miles. I’ve been running the replacement pump now for over 110k miles, as I approach 160k miles on the car. I only just replaced the intank filter last summer, and the fuel pump is showing no signs of giving up. I believe the fuel pump is an issue with these engines, but I’m not convinced the problem is as bad as Internet forums would have you believe.

Thanks for the info. I am guessing your replacement pump was genuine brand new under warranty?
