2011 R56, Limp-mode P0001 and P306F

Had this problem intermittently and decided to get it checked out. Going onto highways, on hard acceleration my car would go into limp mode on and off, but would go away once I would get up to speed. Pending codes P0001 and P306F came up. I'm going to be trading it in soon so I wanted to get it taken care of, went to my mechanic who diagnosed it as a fuel pressure issue. After a $1700 quote I asked if he could hold on the repair so I could look more into it, but at least give me a write-up of the repairs. I just got a chance to look at it, and he was going to be replacing my HPFP and regulator (I assume fuel pressure regulator). My concern is, I just had the HPFP replaced a year ago under recall. What are the odds it would be the HPFP again? Or is there a reason that the HPFP would need to be replaced if it was just the regulator? I'd appreciate any help, especially if its going to kill my trade-in value where I end up needing it fixed.

Both of those codes are related to low fuel rail pressure. With the design of the HPFP, it is entirely plausible that it needs to be replaced again. Check your receipts for when it was replaced last, and maybe the replacement is still under the 2-year warranty. Might be worth a call to the dealer to find out, if you have the paperwork in hand.

Replacing the pump isn’t complicated, and can be completed by anyone with a bit of mechanical ability. Would cut your cost in half:

Not impossible but unusual for the HPFP to fail after one year. Has the LP filter in the tank ever been replaced. The HPFP can't make pressure if its not getting enough flow from the LP side. LP side should read 5 to 5.3 bar most of the time but will dip to 4.3 bar under load. You'd need to T in a sensor to see that though as the Mini has no sensor on the LP side.
