new to forum.. 2011 mini rough idle, misfiring post... yes again

Hey all so I'm new here but not to the car world and forums. I have read through many many threads already and I suspect the problem is the HPFP...
but any way so my GFs car is a 2011 Cooper S and she is getting the common misfiring/rough idle symptoms. I have already replaced the plugs and ignition coils and I just did the dreaded walnut blasting of the carbon build up(which wasn't too bad actually lol)... but to no avail it is still having the issue.. any input on this or is the HPFP the next logical step?

Thanks, Jason

When my 2011 MCS HPFP started showing symptoms, it was not very long before the "half check engine light" came on, and sometimes it would go into limp-home mode---no turbo. When I pulled codes, I had misfire and fuel pressure codes. New HPFP cured these issues.

Get the car hooked up to a proper scan tool, and don't keep throwing parts at the car.

Failing HPFP's are being covered out to 120k miles (on 07-09 cars) under dealer warranty, so a dealer visit may not be too bad of an idea for a free pump that would otherwise cost you around $600.

2011 HPFP's being covered by warranty? Any link to Mini/BMW offering this? I only see early cars being mentioned.

HPFP is covered under extended 10 year/120K mile MINI warranty for N14 engines, but the it's not really free. You will be asked to pay for 1 hour of labor to "diagnose" that it truly is HPFP, before a dealer will attempt to process the warranty swap.

And if they disagree with you that the root cause is HPFP, you will be out of 1 hour of labor and then need to take your car to a competent independent to deal with the underlying problems.

My 2011 MCS HPFP was covered under remaining factory warranty, only days before it expired. Not sure if it was extended for the N18. Seems to be a LOT of HPFP issues lately, even on the N18 engine. Carbon walnut blasting on an N18? I thought that the N18 was not going to have the N14's carbon buildup issues?

^This^. It's smart to mention the 'campaign' to your service advisor so they know you are aware of it.

Carbon build-up is an issue on all direct injection (DI) engines, N14, N18, multiple BMW N-series and S-series engines, etc.

N18 may have partially mitigated the severity with redesigned crankcase ventilation, but the underlying problem of no fuel splashing over/cleaning intake valves is still there.
