My driver's side window stuck in the halfway position. While activating the switch up or down the window would move a few inches while making a grinding noise as if something was rubbing against a cable(?).
When I pulled the door panel off to investigate - I could not see, feel or find anything wrong.
Oddly enough the window then began functioning normal up/down, no noise, or seizing
I decided to pull the lower speaker for a better view and found this stuck to the magnet of the speaker...
I could not find anything related on realOEM.
Anyone know where this odd looking piece may have come from?
Dunno man - I looked at all of the door and window related diagrams on RealOEM that I could see, and I can't see anything that looks like that. It has a weirdly reminiscent shape of the front plastic cap that goes on the crash tubes, but those are plastic. Someone took out that speaker, put it down on the ground to do some work, picked it up, and didn't notice the hitchhiker stuck to it is my guess.
Interesting, yet still perplexing.
Having flipped it over, it seems to appear that it may have once been butted up against a shaft or spindle at one point due the indication of the round, rusty circular pattern in the center.
Given your speculation that it may have been some unrelated piece picked up by the magnet if the speaker had once been removed...
We/I myself had never removed that speaker since we owned the car (new - 2003).
However, if memory serves - When my wife originally had the car in for a failed driver side window repair/regulator 11years ago, the service tech may have indeed pulled the speaker to facilitate the ease of replacement.
It just seems too coincidental that now with the recent anomalous window occurrence that this piece was found on top of the magnet rim when I pulled the speaker.
I've never serviced a window regulator so I have no idea whether it is an associated part.
Edit: I did however, change out the driver side door locking mechanism about 6years ago.
Yes sir - That's it!
I did replace the driver's door check a few years ago. As I recall I also removed the door card at that time. This thing has nagged me for hours. That shape seemed so familiar to me.
Thank you for saving my sanity!
