2007 base model severe power loss

Hello everyone,

My 2007 manual is experiencing severe power loss particularly on hills this week. No check engine light although some “pending” codes of p0014 and p0017 have just popped up when I scan it. It is not stumbling or hesitating and I don’t detect any misfire or spark knock. Once it warms up it does not idle smoothly but goes up and down maybe 50 rpm. Sitting still in neutral when I rev it above 3k rpm I hear what sounds like a metallic slapping or knocking noise.

I suspect timing chain but wanted to throw it out to you all for other opinions.

Thank you

I would not run her until you pull the codes. That sounds like trouble to me and agree it is likely the chain. If you are handy, pull the valve cover and take look.

You can also check the Timing chain tensioner bolt. Mine backed out causing the same symptoms. If it has not been upgraded, it needs to be.
