Can someone help me decipher these codes from mini
Hi,
so recently I brought my 2012 cooper S to get my timing chain repaired at a shop, after the chain was replaced I got a cel, I took the car to mini and they scanned my key, these are the codes it gave me:
2D5A
2D5B
2DA0
2C58
these are not the normal Pxxxx codes I’m used to and the sheet they gave me doesn’t give much info otherwise. Can someone point me in the right direction as to where to start investigating.
the car cranks over for abnormally long periods of time, every time I clear the code the engine starts and runs normally but after 100m the light comes back on and the car starts up like crap again.
ive attached pictures of the pages mini gave me below.
Not sure what it could be but it sounds like a misfire. you may want to check the timing to see if it were done correctly. remove the valve cover and take a look.
also, there are some auto parts store that can read the codes for free. at least you get an idea what these codes could be.
So I ordered a pair of Vanos solenoids and cam position sensors and so far I was only able to replace everything but the exhaust Vanos solenoid (the one closer to the front of the engine). I started up the car with the same issue. Is that the type of code that needs to be cleared or should is it possible it’s both of the solenoids causing the issue.
If you had a CEL you’ll have to clear
the code and see if it comes back.
If it was just a pending DTC without the
light on it may clear on its own after
a drive cycle or two.

I installed the second solenoid yesterday and have driven it quite a few times since and the cars still starting like it did before, seems really odd because it would make sense that it was the solenoids.

it seems that the DTC didn’t clear itself properly, I plugged in my elm, cleared the ecu and gave it the good ol’ Italian tune up and the codes seem to be gone for good. Thank you cristo, you definitely know your stuff!
