R57 Help with some codes.
Help with some codes.
I have a 2010 R57.
Check engine light came on and I had it tested. Codes said cylinder 2 & 4 misfire.
So I changed the spark plugs and coils. Also changed the oil while I was under the hood.
No I have a rough idle and more codes.
Here are the codes.
P0300
P0302
P0304
P0012
P0301
as well as a pending code P0303.
Basically a misfire on every cylinder. And a code that says something like "camshaft over retarded".
Wanted to see what you all think before I take it to the shop. It seems to run good out on the road with a little missing here and there, then like I said before a rough idle while stopped.
Thanks.

Did you get this checked out yet? P0012 could be 'A' Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded (Bank) or VANOS intake: Closed-loop control fault, camashaft sticks. Check out this thread here as this individual had the same codes.

Yes I ended up taking it in. Shop replaced intake Cam sensor and that didn't help. Then they checked the timing chain and it is stretched and the rails are broken. Hopefully fixing that does the trick.
Unfortunately, this is something people face with the R56. If the chain is allowed to move as the result of a broken timing chain guide there is a chance the chain could jump and throw engine timing off. If this happens valves could contact the pistons and engine damage could result. The guides wear from lack of lubrication and running low on engine oil. This can cause timing chain rattle at start up, noise when running and worse-case scenario a jumped timing engine. We go over this and a lot more info in this tech article here if you want to take a look at what the process is to fix it. Let us know how everything goes and if your issue is fixed after the work is done.

Yep, a timing chain set is in your future. Be sure that you fetch all of the broken guide parts out of the sump. They're plastic, but you don't want them swimming around your lubrication system.
