Hello this is my first post. I've been doing some heavy digging and cannot find info on my specific problem.
I have a 2010 Mini Cooper S N14. I just did the timing chain as I was hearing the typical harsh noise on cold start. Turns out, my upper guide had broken.
I dropped my oil pan and replaced the timing chain. After torquing down bolts and going to check timing the chain will not turn.
Let me verify. When I turn the engine by hand I have no problem (plugs are out so no compression). As I turn the engine my cams and timing chain refuse to budge.
Hmmm....it's hard to tell without a video, but is it possible the crank bolt snapped? Or is it possible your using a bigger socket? Did you remove all your locking tools?

I've used 2 bolts (since stretch bolts and 1 time use). The 1st was fine after I removed it. It doesn't seem to be a broken bolt. I'm using an 18mm socket and all the locking tools are off.
It sounds like your crankshaft sprocket is not moving with your crankshaft. Your pistons are moving while turning by hand which means your bolt and crankshaft assembly are all working. If the top end is not working, the place these two meet is the crankshaft sprocket. I would check to make sure this part of the job was reassembled correctly.
I'm fairly certain this was caused by the hub. I pulled out the hub had to fight it off the timing sprocket. I checked it against the old sprocket and it seems slightly mushroomed.
I ordered a new hub from ecs. Hopefully this will solve my problem
Is there a specific way to check the timing at this point?
Here's a pretty good procedure for replacing a timing chain --- https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/r...aft/1VnY7d2Xnh browse thru it to ensure you've done all the right stuff and in the correct order. It also has a method to verify timing is correct after initial setup.
