Front Brake Service

Hi Everyone,

I am almost due to have the front brakes serviced on my 2013 MINI Cooper Hardtop Non-S. What are the best front brake rotors and pads that you would recommend? Thanks!

best?

What's your metric for best? Cost, wear, dust, heat fade ????

best will also vary based on your intended use and driving style ... are you driving like you stole it? Or careful and conservative?

to say the best is X, I'd need to have experience with EVERY OTHER OPTION ....

I've been happy with EBC reds and 'plain jane rotors' <no slots or holes> on all my MINI and EBC red is one Way recommends (Way Motor Works ... a vendor that's been a primary MINI source for longer than most of the others). I do not track or autocross and live in Florida <NO HILLS>

Depends on what you are after? Better stopping power, low dust, long lasting?

I went with Akebono pads & Centric Rotors last change on my Countryman. Almost no visible dust, long lasting so far and good stopping power.

I agree with Capt-bj, EBC reds and standard rotors.

When I replaced my brakes, I was ready with the EBC red brake pads, but wasn't expecting to have to replace the rotors, but the oem rotors, though they looked alright, were worn below the minimum thickness with only 35K miles on them. I wanted to do the brakes that day, so I got some Duralast rotors from Autozone, they have preformed great. I'd buy the Duralast rotors again, but I would paint the top hats as they do rust and I can see it through the wheels.

The nice thing about EBC red brake pads is that they don't dust up the wheels, like the oem pads, and they stop the car better.

in the big picture, altho I usually can go 2 sets of pads to a set of rotors

rotors are cheap so long as you stay plain jane

and once you get stuff off to change the pads

you've done 90% of what's needed to change the rotors

If you brought your MINI into our shop I'd recommend and install our EBC redstuff pads
https://www.waymotorworks.com/ebc-re...per-non-s.html

and our WMW rotors
https://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-br...per-non-s.html

2nd choice for pads would be the akebono

I would like brake pads with equivalent stopping power, less brake dust, and a longer life when compared to the OEMs. Also, what brake rotors would you recommend?

the answer is right above

EBC red pads and simple rotors

you can buy a package from WAY

or get rotors from your local parts store - gone are the days when parts stores said "what's a MINI"

To tell ya the truth a while back I looked at son's MINI and saw his pads were way down. He was in school and I knew finding time to take the car in would be tuff, but also had no time to get "good" pads like EBC. I went to parts store and bought duralast pads and had NO complaints about the performance!!!!!
