Funny that they told me the same thing last week
I was told that my "concerns" would be passed on to the Engineer Dept....
I find it VERY hard to believe that they haven't heard a thing about it

Maybe we should send them a link of this thread....

It turns out that my problems were not due to V39. For the last year I have been using an upgraded ignition system (Pilo) and it appears that's where my woes have been coming from. The spark plugs were fine, the wires and coils were temporarily replaced with stock units and the car is running beautifully. It feels soooo good. At first glance, gas mileage even appears to be better.....only time will tell. The service manager says they have been doing tons of re-calls and still no reported problems. I am a happy camper once again! I hope all of you on this thread find a remedy.

'02 MCS, CAI, 15% pulley, GIAC chip, etc.

Emission Recall

Drove in the 2/04 Mini S into LB Mini at 7:45Am....got a cup of free coffee and something to read....8:25am I'm driving out the driveway...A quick trip up PCH to Laguna through the canyon to US405 back to Long Beach....the light throttle stumple at 2500RPM is gone, the cruise stays +/- 1 MPH and the idle has increased by about 100 RPM.......Today is going to be a good day...................

FYI: the Cooper S redline is advertised as 6,950 RPM, basically 7 grand

I'm willing to bet if I called again they'd tell me they knew nothing about it.

As for the time on the clock, thanks for the instructions, I had already set it correctly. Still, they shoulda left things the way they found em. Guess I've been spoiled by the good service I get from my independant mechanic who works on my Vette, rather than going to dealers. <siiiigh> The idle is getting better on Mr. Q ... but still not right. I'm trying to document it to have a better idea of any pattern to when it acts up.

I have boiled all of my herky-jerky, stumble, bumble, yo-yo problems to that GD recall update. I have spent $ and time recalling when all this started. And it started when the dealer took it upon himself to do the update while the car was in for a small cosmetic issue. God I'm pissed. The car is going to the Dyno tomorrow and to the dealer on Thursday. It was smooth and fun to drive. I can't recommend a Mini to anyone until I get this straitened out. Where is .40 when we need it?

watch out... v 40 might make our engines use superstring theory to guess how fast we "really" want to go.

Actually.. you're right. that might make things better.

Yes if the ECU finally listened to how fast we want to go, that would be heading in the right direction at least

Gary had the upgrade done on the 03 MC today. He says the sluggishness in 1st gear is gone & overall the MINI seems much quicker with improved response. If I can pry myself out of the Cabrio long enough, I'll drive the 03 & see what I think.

I think that the negative effect is on the MCS only. I have not read this whole thread so others may know more.

I just realized that this may be attributable to the fact that I'm now running 15" wheels...less unsprung weight to get the car moving. So it may not be 39.2 after all.....

Gee that's a big "oops!" The smaller, lighter wheels/tires will make a HUGE difference. Sounds like the ECU upgrade didn't have an effect.

On Tuesday (11/30) I called the dealership to schedule an appt for my MCS since it drives like crap. They told me they couldn't fit me in, due to the high number of other cars coming in for the recall, until 12/9.

On the way to work this AM my car went into limp mode and SEL flashed for a couple of seconds and then stayed on. I restarted the car to get out of limp mode, dropped off my carpool buddy at work and took my car over the dealership to drop my car off. No word yet on what the fault code was/is. I'll keep you all posted.

Is that for the new 2005 model or is that for older ones as well (such as 2002 and 2003)? The reason I ask, is that I could have sworn the redline was around 6800 for my Jan 03 build MCS.

software upgrade yes or no??

I'm bringing in my Nov '03 build MCS tomorrow for its first service at 8500 miles (I know..I know... I don't drive enough! I have a 2 mile commute to work). Not sure of my software version, but I do have the stumble and was going to ask them to upgrade to the latest software version. What do you guys recommend I do? Can they upgrade but not V.39?
Thanks,
David

Don't do it unless you need the upgrade to pass emissions. Hold off as long as you can.

i had the limp home mode problem. then they replaced the SC bypass valve. and all of a sudden, my mini cooper S is actually an S again. AND without the limp home mode.

but then again... it may be a different reason for you. I find it funny that the bypass valve was defective. My S/C mustve been mad at it for having such a superego.

anyways, had 39.2 done sometime ago. still had the stumble and rough idle. Cold start went away though, and my cruise is actually working.

Then got that limp home mode issue fixed and then did the ECU reset. I am a happy mini-er once again.

After much hesitation I decided to take the plunge and have my software updated, and . . . The car is running like a champ. To be honest it feels the same as it did before.

It's been 26 hours since I dropped the car off with the dealer. I just called them and they still haven't got my car in to even check the fault code! Honestly, I wonder if cars scheduled to get the upgrade have been getting priority over my broken car. They say that is what most all of the MINIs are in for. So if it is taking over 26 hours just to plug up the diagnostic computer in under the dash...
