Temperature Warning & No Heat

Question for the mini tinkerers...2012 Mini Cooper Clubman

A couple of times now my engine temp light has come on 'yellow' but gone off shortly after. Also, not sure it's related, but my heat is not working in the cabin of the car all of a sudden...irony, my warranty expired on Oct 01. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Jason

How is your coolant level? Sounds like you may have an air bubble moving through the system. Better check this out & remedy before you cook the engine.

spot on recommendation

no coolant to the heat system = no heat. Why no coolant getting there????

Could be as simple as level has gotten LOW over time .... OR you could have a leak

The posts above me pretty much covered it. Sounds like it could be air in the system. You can try bleeding it. There is a bleeder screw on top of the thermostat housing. Or it could possibly need a new thermostat. But check for air first. There are some good diy’s for how to bleed the system on this site, and online and YouTube.

My coolant was severely low, I topped up and everything 'seems' fine currently. Don't seem to be getting the heat I should in the cabin, but I may be imagining that.

It should be making heat. If it was really low, there very well may be some air trapped in there that needs to be bled out.

Is that something I can do myself...or do I need to have someone do that for me...I'm reasonably handy but anything major I'd rather have done right.

Just keep adding coolant to the reservoir until it doesn't go down anymore after running the car up to temperature. You may have to fill up the reservoir a number of times until the air bubble works itself out. Also have the heat on max in the car. If it keeps going down you have a leak some where.
