Help, no start

I have a 2006 R53 that I erased all the DTC codes on last night. I used my Schwaben 14020SCH BMW/Mini scanner to do it. I went into some menus on the device that I wasn’t sure what all they did, so I backed out an moved on. I made no adjustments. I simply erased error codes that were stored. Now the car will turn over but not start. What the h#@l did I do? Like I said, everything appears to be fine, just cannot start the car. The starter is motoring, but there is no ignition. Any help is appreciated!

Hello.
I used it many times, all i can think of is the ignition switch went bad? So the starter spins but no start. Clearing codes does not create any "no starts" so something else its going on.
My guess is that you are not getting fuel or spark if the engine turns. Rescan and see what comes up?

No fuel, check to hear the fuel pump run, did you just change the fuel filter? https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...er-change.html

No spark, check the coil and wires or the wire that clips to the back of the coil pack.

Haven’t changed the fuel filter. Car has 86000 miles. It is on the list. Is there an easy way to check ignition switch without just changing it?

If the starter is turning, most of the time its not that switch. But I have seen the switch act up from time to time. No way to tell. I tore mine aparts and found the pins were not making contact when i turned it. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-question.html

My guess is that its the fuel pump (listen to see if you can hear the whine in the back when you turn on the ignition) or no spark, it would be good to rule the ignition switch out/.

before you freak out too much, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. You may have accidentally made a change with the tool. disconnecting the battery may fix it, if it was not hard written into the ecm.

There is fuel but no spark. I disconnected the battery over night. What would keep the ignition from working at all?

can you get it scaned again and check the settings, as the immobilizer may be activated now.

I am not sure, but there i a procedure around here somewhere.
If you can not find it, we will try to locate it for you.
Here is the basic one:
How to Reset the ECU:
  1. With the key in the ignition, but in the off position, press and hold down the odometer reset button with one hand.
  2. While holding the button down, switch the key in the ignition to position 1 (first click) with the other hand. The screen will have a number and the word “TEST”.
  3. Scroll through the numbers by pressing the odometer rest button, through to 19 and wait a moment. (Note: the number order is: 1,2,10,19)
  4. The message will say 19 "L i-off", flash to "L i-on", and back to "L i-off" again. When "log i-off" appears, press the odometer rest button again.
  5. You are now in the system. Scroll through to 21. TEST and wait a moment. 21.0 RESET will come up. Press the button once.
  6. Your gauges will now make some sounds and movements.
  7. Once the lights come back on start your car. You have now reset your ECU and your MINI is now ready to relearn the new mods and your driving style.
it can be a pain in the butt to do this and every time I used help. One thing wrong and you need to start over, until you get it right.
There are other ways too!

I’ve already done the ECU reset from that procedure. It did not fix the problem.

It is hard to do this right, even after several trys.
Try this:
Unplug the wires to the back of the coil, spray them on both ends with electrical contact cleaner, then check for spark again.

So took it to a local German car guy. About three minutes later it was fixed. From the receipt and his description: “performed quick test using Mini Cooper tester, fault stored for alignment issue with DME, ECU, and EWS control unit. Re-aligned DME, ECU and EWS control unit. Cleared fault, and straightened one pin connector for DME control unit connector. $90 USD. I’m ok with that!!
