2009 Clubman Key Fob and Keyless Entry Issues

Hi All - I could really use some advice. My 2009 Mini Clubman key functions (lock, unlock, trunk open) and keyless entry quit on me about a year and a half ago. I replaced the battery in the key and still did not work. At the time I thought it was just my key which had been pretty beat up, and didn't want to buy a new key. About 6 months ago I found my spare key which was in perfect condition, and while it still works with the car the keyless entry and key functions still did not work. Recently I just took the car to the shop where they charged up my car battery (and now the battery has been replaced) and replaced the key battery. Now the keyless entry works intermittently about 90%, but the key functions only unlock the trunk when about any button is pressed, and the door lock/unlock do not work when pressed. Does anyone know where to start with this? The dealership didn't identify the issue and said they'd have to charge me another $$$ just to do an electrical diagnosis. Any ideas where to start?

Is there a good aftermarket rear view mirror that's available for sale, or a way to just purchase the antenna?

I think any oem will do but not sure about the after market one since they might just sell a dummy one.

Do you know if they need to be programmed to the car, or if it should just be plug and play?

Aother really good place to start is a good, reliable independent BMW/MINI shop. Those guys know how to diagnose, find and correct problems. The only service dealerships can do is throw new parts at a problem and hope that fixes it. Also, when you create a fine relationship with an indie, he will often take care of little things he notices with the intention of makeing you an even better customer...like running a free scan for you.

Is it possible for the antenna to be broken though if it "sort of" works? Currently I can press the door unlock button, and the trunk opens. So the signal is getting transmitted, but it's just incorrect. Also, the keyless entry buttons work too most of the time now.

take the mirror down and check it out. by keyless entry, you mean comfort access?

here is another post

Is comfort access referring to the door buttons that unlock the car when you press them? Those tend to work most of the time now, however the actual key buttons only seem to unlock the trunk and nothing else.

yes those ones...those should work fine because they have different sensors. usually located behind each door panel and in the trunk or under the rear seat.

the culprit seems to be the rear view mirror. do you know any mini owners near you who can lend you the mirror to test?

I do not, but they don't seem like too expensive of a part. An OEM looks like it's around $50. Now I just need to find the right model number I need. Where do I find that? I've got a 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman (not the S).

check this https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_6125

no.2 has the three buttons in the bottom...in general, the antenna is plug and play. I dont think it matters. search ebay and ask the seller for the specifics if you want.

I've also got a 2009 Clubman and I'm having the exact same issue Jonathan was having. Just replaced one fob: no luck. Will try replacing mirror next. Thanks so much for your advice and the link.
