So i have an issue

i have a mcs r56
ita had a terrible rattle and a rough idle
i scanned it i get a p112b code change the coolant sensor.
that didn't do anything because my fans still run immediately at start up. This is just one of many issues
I also have a terrible idle i know my valve cover was bad leaking oil. I believe the pcv valve is bad as well. Would this cause a rough idle/ idle surge?
so upon removing the valve cover to check my guides i found the whole top guide missing. However my chain is very tight/ no slack. I used a flashlight and check the side guides and they look to be in good order.
I bought the car three months ago from someone who obviously didn't know how to take care of a car. The car fax said everything up to 97,xxx was done at mini. Chains were done at 57,000 with updated tension. I've literally dumped thousands into this car so far and only drive it to week.
sorry for the rant.
my last question is is it possible the rest of the chain and guides are still good being that there is no slack in the chains? Cams and everything also look good and compression is good.
just need so input and advise on these issues cause I'm lost and broke with this fu$:&king car

edit: i believe the previous owner saw the broken guide and just snapped it the Rest of the way off because it's a clean break and the valve cover had a silicon gasket on top of the regular gasket 🤦🏻*♂️🤦🏻*♂️

a leaky valve cover can cause a rough idle. also, faulty spark plugs can cause a rough idle.

there is also cases of vacuum leak due to cracked pipe the one connecting the valve cover to the intake manifold. you also need to check the timing itself to make sure at least you are running properly.

where in jersey are you?

I had a similar experience with the p112b code. Changed the thermostat housing twice. Than I rebuilt the electrical connection to the engine coolant temp sensor
Things seem to be working good now.

im in north jersey jersey city area how about you?
you referring to the pcv hose correct?
i do believe the timings still ok because the chain is very tight still virtually no slack however i will get the timing tool to be positive. My other guides look to be in good order i can't move them with my fingers or anything.
The top piece is a straight swap? Should cure the issue of my timing chain checks out?
i ordered the top guide and valve cover already

In in northeast philly and work in bordentown

yes, you can just install the new one right in...However, I think you should take the oil pan to clean the oil strainer from any plastic that might've got sucked in when the guide broke.

as for the fans, do you have hot air blowing in the cabin? is you coolant at the right level? did you check the coolant pipes connected properly?

oh i know the area that's a little past Trenton! About a hour from me.
yeah i know this is the next step as well. This car has been a nightmare for me so far. Smh
the coolant fans kick on instantly i do have hot air right and the coolant is at the right level. It's not leaking anywhere or over heating at all just aggravating that my fans stay on extra long haha

When I replaced the thermostat on my countryman, I swapped the pipes going to the radiator, and it took me a while to figure it out despite the hot air in the cabin and not loosing coolant...the first thing would be checking the pipes.

I've worked on the worst of minis and turned fine...you have to take it one step at a time and never buy parts unless confirmed they are faulty.

The fans were always running on my countryman. I also got a code, if i remember. That's why i so focused on the sensor and not the pipes.

Again, this might not be your case but at lease you verify connections before you go crazy or spend more money on it.

Mine also never overheated even when i got stuck in traffic for 3 hrs!!!

New plastic connector from ECS($16 Shipped). Metal wire clips from BMW($11 each. Need 2).
Real simple.
Just watch how you take it apart.
