Need help 2007 N14 cooper S top end rattle

Hi guys i have a horrible rattle coming from the cam cover area above cylinder 1 right by the pcv pipe. The rattle happens when the engine is warm between 2,000-3,000 rpm. But only on a steady throttle as soon as the engine is pulling it goes. The noise is very metallic.
I have already replace the chain, guides, tensioner and vanos gear. Also done a walnut blast about 6 months ago.
Has anyone had this before? I'm thinking hydraulic lifter sticking?

Could be the infamous N14 death rattle due to the chain guide going. IMO you STOP driving now. Park it and have it looked at.

as whine said, stop the car and pop the valve cover and take a look. did you use the 82mm tensioner? do you have enough oil in the engine?

I have used the latest genuine mini 'long' chain tensioner. It's not the chain. The noise isn't there from cold only starts only when the engine is warm and gets worse the hotter it gets. 'Do I have enough oil in the engine' seriously?

what's with the attitude?

we are asking questions to fill the gaps in your diagnosis...we're not with you and we dont know what you or someone else did on your car!

people are something...good luck mate!

Long distance car diagnostics is like throwing darts blindfolded. The more we now, the bigger slit in the blindfold.

So as the engine heats up something is expanding and rattles. For me I would recheck all the torque settings on the head.

When i put my hand on the vacuum connection it pulling vacuum. This car is my '08 R55 Clubman S

I know that you said the noise is coming from near cylinder number one, but could it somehow be the vacuum pump....completely opposite, but they can make a helluva racket...

How many miles on the car? High mileage N14 vacuum pumps have been known to seize, that stops the camshaft, pistons hit the valves, and you're buying a new engine. If you even suspect the vacuum pump then replace it, cheap insurance.
