Need help 2007 N14 cooper S top end rattle
Hi guys i have a horrible rattle coming from the cam cover area above cylinder 1 right by the pcv pipe. The rattle happens when the engine is warm between 2,000-3,000 rpm. But only on a steady throttle as soon as the engine is pulling it goes. The noise is very metallic.
I have already replace the chain, guides, tensioner and vanos gear. Also done a walnut blast about 6 months ago.
Has anyone had this before? I'm thinking hydraulic lifter sticking?

I have used the latest genuine mini 'long' chain tensioner. It's not the chain. The noise isn't there from cold only starts only when the engine is warm and gets worse the hotter it gets. 'Do I have enough oil in the engine' seriously?

Long distance car diagnostics is like throwing darts blindfolded. The more we now, the bigger slit in the blindfold.
So as the engine heats up something is expanding and rattles. For me I would recheck all the torque settings on the head.

Since the subject is rattle noise, i can not pin point where its coming from, stetoscope all around the top valve cover i dont hear snapping chain or bearing noise, i did disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and the noise came quiet, do i need to replace the vacuum pump? How many miles on the car? High mileage N14 vacuum pumps have been known to seize, that stops the camshaft, pistons hit the valves, and you're buying a new engine. If you even suspect the vacuum pump then replace it, cheap insurance.
