Should I replace R53 tires with tires with air?

It seems I can never get traction and it is always raining in Seattle.
I could carry a spare tire in the back, if I had to.

Yes, it’s always a good idea to have air in your tires

I concur...

Much better than the alternative...

Yes, we know that ALL automobile tires need air inside...

What exactly are you asking?

Y'all. The OP is asking to go from Runflat tires to standard tires.

Absolutely nothing wrong with ditching the run-flat tires. FYI, those have air in them too. You can carry a spare, or at least a can of Slime. I carry a plug kit and electric compressor in mine.

Get a tire better suited for good wet and maybe snow (Seattle, I don't know) and you will be a lot happier. (Like a Continental DWS)

Non-runflat tires are typically a little softer overall so you will enjoy that too.

Yes,
Those are no flat tires and not performing in the rain, at all.

Can I get benefit from switching to normal tires?

Yes, but mainly from choosing a tire that is good in wet weather. That is what will help you more.

Honestly, this thread start reminded me of an incident at a friend's local garage. A little old lady came in and for some imagined reason wanted the air in her tires changed. The guy thought it over and accepted the job. He had an assistant take her home then went back to get her an hour later. He didn't, of course, do anything but charged her $1.00, 2 bits a corner and she left very happy and made her a faithful return customer.

I have about 7,000 miles on these Bridgestone run flats that I got through Costco:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

I'm very happy with the wet performance, well, last spring when we actually had rain. The Drive Guards have very good reviews in the wet. I've never come close to the limits of adhesion on the street on these tires, I'm quick but not crazy.

I'd do a bit of research on Tire Rack's website to see what others think of various tires.
They do seem harsh on rough pavement but I've never driven on any other tire in my R53 so it could also be the Bilsteins.

Hope this helps.

I had to click on the thread title just to see where it would go. Not disappointed so far

When I get a car with run flats, the first thing I do, is get regular performance tires to replace them.
Run flats are hard on your car, the wheel bearings, suspension bits and your ***. The noise that transfers throughout you car is a misery also!
Just get some freaking tires and put a portable air compressor and tire patch kit in the boot! If you don't feel warm and fuzzy with that, you will need to get a tire/wheel combo (like on the base models and put it in the boot !) This is not rocket science!

I found LT235/70R16 mud tires that were too big for my Honda Element and got them to fit anyway. The noise was annoying. I had to find Michelin LTX MS 215 R70 16 tires for performance and quiet.

In 1986 I was loaned out for a month to Rocket Research in Redmond WA for proposal work on Midgetman Missile in partners with Martin Marietta.
I proposed a side thruster valve that opens with a regulated Voltage across the solenoid coil, and then keep the valve open with a regulated current.
This would save battery life and give more consistent turn on times for the steering control loop. [stupid little common sense change]
The chief staff engineer at Rocket Research said I had come up with the first improvement in rocket engines in 20 years.
A few months later I would help them with the concept for Arc Jet. That DID change rocket engines. [The exhaust plume out the back is like an arc in welding]

Rocket science is easy.
Tires are hard.

I am hoping to find someone who says, "if you want traction and quiet in an R53, buy XXXX tires or..... buyXX tires and XX rims.

OK... "If you want traction and quiet in an R53, buy Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 tires."

I won't suggest wheels, as those are dependent on your personal aesthetics, but my setup, which I'm extremely happy with is comprised of the following:

TIRES:

Continental
ExtremeContact DWS 06
(205/50/R16)

*these are NOT run-flat tires

WHEELS:

Rota RB
16x7 (40mm offset)
Bolt Pattern: 4x100
Hub Diameter: 56.1 mm
Color: Royal Gun Metal

Hope this is of assistance.

The cheap Federal 595 RS-Rs I ran on my old Miata weren't noticeably loud and they gripped for days.

Before I retired I owned a precision engineered ceramics company (PEC) and did a bunch of work for aerospace equipment, even on the old space shuttles. I designed the parts, customized ceramics to fit needed properties and machined parts to exacting tolerances. I almost miss all of that, but not enough to ever want to do it again! It is so good not have those stresses anymore! Retirement has allowed me to play with Mini Coopers

I have that exact set up in our Mini and I do also happen to live in Seattle......and work with bunch of rocket scientist quite frequently.
