Fob and delay of lights + trunk open

I've been trying to solve this for months. Appreciate the sleuthing from board experts.

Symptom: Doors unlock normally with fob BUT lights flashing confirmation and trunk will not respond for up to 45 seconds to a minute. This happens if the car has been sitting for at least an hour. If it's driven and parked it responds normally since it's not left for more than an hour.

Tried: New car battery. New batteries in remotes/fobs. Fixed burnt ground on one tail light.

Local mechanic thinks a module is failing but needs it to completely fail before being able to find it.

Frustrating and cannot figure it out.

please post a short video.

I take you have comfort access option since you were able to replace key fob batt. do the doors open, then the light comes after 45 sec to acknowledge and same when you close?

No comfort access. I had to cut the fobs open then glue them shut. Not a big deal. The video will only show the long delay in the lights acknowledging delay and the trunk not opening. Yes, when closed the light blink again.

Again, after driving it's normal again. ie lights blink immediately. Trunk can open immediately.

ah ok...

how about if you try with the actual key to open or close, does it do the same thing?

has there been/did you check any water intrusion into either side of the footwells/kick panels?

Haven't tried with just the key. Live in Portland so loads of rain. But this started in the dry summer.

Ok try it with key itself.

why the ground was burned on the taillight?

also, ONLY when you drive the car, things return to normal? with heater on? with AC on? if you just open and close multiple times (let's was in a span of 5 minutes every 15 sec) does it get better or stay the same?

Regarding the burnt ground on the tail lights. Apparently, this is very common on these cars. I don't know why. One tail light looked dimmer than the other and a local tech suggested that was the case as its so common.

Yes, just driving the car. Makes no difference what is used or on during the drive. Obviously, something is getting energized.

I tried using just the key. On two different occasions to be sure. Both times it immediately opened not only the doors but also the trunk. Lights did not flash which might be normal with key only.

Does that provide any trouble shooting help?

I was trying to see if the mechanism is changed (key vs remote) what the outcome would be like...seems no effect!

I will check on my 09 clubman S during lunch today to see what it should be.

But there IS a difference. With the remote, the doors open but not the trunk until the lights flash. With the key alone, both the doors and the trunk open immediately - just no flashing which could be normal using just the key.

I just tested my clubman...

key fob 1 push opens driver door only and signal lights flash once
key fob 2 pushes opens remaining doors and signal lights dont
key fob closes all and signal lights flash twice

key turn once opens drive side only and signal lights flash once
key turn again opens remaining doors and signal lights dont flash
key turn once closes all and signal lights flash twice

The locking command comes from the fuse box [SPEG] (passenger kick panel)
the lights command comes from the body cont module [FRM] (driver kick panel)

The setting can be adjusted to open both doors or just driver. So mine does not do as yours do regarding flashing.

key turn once opens drive side only and signal lights flash once
key turn again opens remaining doors and signal lights dont flash
key turn once closes all and signal lights flash twice

Key turn doesn't have any flash.

The locking command comes from the fuse box [SPEG] (passenger kick panel)
the lights command comes from the body cont module [FRM] (driver kick panel)

This is what worries me. That's a very expensive repair FRM. Is there easy access to it where I could just reset some connections and hope its corrosion?

you may try that...you have to pull the kick panel as far as the brake paddle. then there are two 10mm plastic nuts one on top and one in the bottom. make sure batt is disconnected before you take out the FRM for cleaning or inspection for water damage.
