Oil leak from a vacuum pump??
Oil leak from a vacuum pump??
Ok, I'm sure to get some sighs form people who have head to many variations of this problem but here goes. I am experiencing huge oil consumption with no visible reason. No leaks, no smoke. I have read about vacuum pump issues on r56s and the horror that can happen if they aren't fixed. Can anyone tell me if that is a problem with 05 r50 base coopers? Do they even have a vacuum pump? I took a quick glance this morning as i checked the oil and didn't see anything in the suspected area except the coolant fill/tsat housing.
Sorry if I started the thread in the wrong place. Yes I found some engine parts drawings and confirmed no pump. I have a new pcv valve ordered but I cleaned mine last night and it wasn't really stopped up at all. I still want to check the vacuum pressure at the valve cover but I don't expect it to be bad. I haven't gotten an exact figure on consumption yet but I am guessing 1qt+ per 1k. Still getting in the mid 30's for mileage and a little over 120k on the odometer. It has never been an oil user but on my last oil change I came up about a quart low draining it. Didn't think too much about it. Not very long into this last oil change I heard lots of clicking at startup till the oil made it up to the head and valves. when I checked it I was alarmed to find oil on the tip of the dipstick. Took nearly 2 quarts to bring it back to the middle of the marks. Been checking daily now that I'm properly scared of losing my engine but I need to figure out why the sudden change. I did recently change the valve cover gasket due to a slow leak that just made the back of the block messy but never enough to drip. Can't see how that could have anything to do with it but I have seen stranger problems.
No problems with where you posted, rather have you ask the question than not ask at all.
Have you thought about putting some UV dye in the oil? Under black light you will see if you have anything leaking on the outside. Also, you have checked the coolant for milkshake goo, correct?

The UV dye is a great thought, I will have to try that. Yes I have checked to coolant and oil for mixing from both directions. My only guess is that I'm burning it which makes me wonder if it isn't showing as smoke, what might it be doing to the CAT.
