Runs well on high rpm and stall on idle

Hello

After head rebuild have an issue with my 07 r56 S.

It runs well on high rpm.
So i don't think its a mechanical issue.
All four have 180psi compression.
Almost half of the engine is new.

its hard to start it.
It starts when you press gas pedal.

No codes when it runs.

When this issue started i had P300 - P304 and P1497

My guess that its dirty injectors.
Will crack it open tonight/tomorrow to clean it.

I remember injectors have like 5-6 small holes in the center to injector tip
and than 4 small holes on the perimeter of the tip.

That 4 holes was semi clogged/dirty.

Not sure but if that 4 holes is responsible for fuel delivery on idle
and center ones responsible for fuel delivery under load/high rpm.
Than i think i know what is the issue - clogged injectors.

Any ideas/thoughts???

Thank you guys.

get a reading even if the check engine light is not on. there might be codes. it looks like a vacuum leak or misfire...turn the car and unplug each coil at a time and see which one makes no difference.

'07MCS injector tips have one pin-hole, centered. If removed, you need a special tool to compress the seal --- for re-installation. In the 6+ years I've been following Mini forums, I've yet to read about bad injectors.

how did you bend them?

did you torque everything to spec and replaced the cam bolts?

where you located by the way?

Everything is to spec.
I think 2 valves was slightly bent.

"--- something went wrong"??? A description of this "something" would be helpful for us. Other than a timing issue or foreign material in the chamber, not much else will bend valves.

When I rebuilt my engine, I swore "Everything is to spec." However, during break-in, several things happened due to loose hardware. Nothing catastrophic, just loose stuff.

If your "something" wasn't catastrophic, maybe another compression check to ensure valve integrity?

Im afraid i will be able to tell you what was that something only after remove head.
May be 2 intake valves was slightly bent and this causedtiming chain to jump.
Engine is not spinning free. It catches on what i think bent valves.

I highly appreciate your input. Was reading your posts about your closed deck engine build. Awesome job! Will post pics and vids in this thread. Please help me out if you have time im desperate with this mini. This is one is giving me so many problems(((

It catches on what i think bent valves. If turning the engine by hand, be sure to rotate it only CW (viewed from the chain end), and have all the spark plugs removed. Tight compression might feel like an obstruction.

The video in your first post --- was it taken before or after the rebuild? There's a definite "clank" in there someplace.

That video was taken after rebuild. I did put 2 miles on the engine. It was fine on idle and good in high rpm. And next day on the first start its just "bent valves" i guess.

Do a compression test and dont assume anything until you see data/tests.

Sometimes one is exited to get the car on the road and forgets to take his/her time to tighten everything and do a final check.

take a breath and go through the steps again.

right now you need a compression test. BUT before that, make sure the engine timing is correct and so take the cover and do visual inspection with your locking tools. THEN, when verified, move to compression test.
