R53 electrical lights problem

I drove my mini and I got the indication that a bulb had gone out so when I got home I looked and sure enough the rear tail light blinker wasn't working, but the brake lights were on and only the passenger side. I finally removed the rear light and was working but the brake lights still on. Replaced all turning lights on passanger side and same thing.. now the lights don't work. Idk where to start. Is there a fuse for just that side? I have a Bentley manual but have no idea here to start.
Thanks for the help

Update : I took it to a shop and they have since said that it is the computer bcm and replacing it the total cost being 1000 is this reasonable price? I know the computer is about $500+ they had to do the trouble shooting at $109 a hour plus the programing and what not.

sounds like a short in the harness .... disconnect the plug at the back of the light housing and look for signs of water and or corrosion ... look too for worn wires . . . they may have rubbed on something over time and now are crossed.

If nothing at the light you might want to eyeball the main computer in the pass' side kick panel. Another common site for water intrusion finding its way into the wires . . .

Check the footwell module , do you have a sunroof ?

Check the to cassette where the water drains in the corners. Sunroof drain tubes. They can clog with debris and such. There are two in the front and two in the rear. #10 and #11 in pics.

Also if they are clean and look ok the drain tube might be leaking. You have to get behind the headliner and A pillars to see.

Click Here for how to: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...of-drains.html

Next since you have electrical probelms sometimes the BMC module will get wet and cause problem. Its looks like this and is located in the front lower panel near where the water drained down.

Thant sounds like you problems, fix the drains on the roof and then check the BCM. Body Control Model ( Hardtop ).

This one is for the R53 and R50 First Gen Hardtops.

Thanks and hope that helps.

Also check the rear taillight area for water / damage:

I do not have a sunroof. I checked the front kick panel where the bcm is looking for a diode. Anyway there was no sign of water intrusion. Is there a drain hole close to the bcm? Also would a failed bcm cause all the signal lights to stop working on passanger side?. They were working now they just quit. I checked mostly everything I could for water but it stays under a carport. So it rarely sees rain

Water sometimes gets through the front window or side window. No drain down there, that why it pools. Check the taillights , harness , then work towards checking the pins and wire harness on the BCM. Then last the BCM, some people open it up to check the board.

No water anywhere. It sounds like a harness problem to me as well.. but the kick panel looks good so does the bcm

Yea I've checked the harness it's self. Everything looks really clean.. so the turning signals work sometimes. They worked for about a min or so then they stopped working, just checked them. .. the only thing is the brake light and the lowest light on the set of three. Top being brake . Middle turn and the last not sure what it is think it's just the light when your headlights are on. But they are just on...they are even on when the car is off

With all the electronic having issue it might be a bad BCM ( open it up and see it the board is damaged ) , not a bad BCM for moisture or water.

The board looks brand new... there is a film substance and it was sorta peeling on one of the circuits but nothing bad. The white connector was kinda dirty on one end. It looked like the white had maybe been in contact with dirt but after looking at the connector on the board it was very white and clear nothing had been inside that portion... I'm looking at the Bentley manual now for a schematic.. I don't mind buying a new
Bcm if that fixed the problem. But I'd like to have piece of mind that's the problem before I buy it... is there a schematic for each pin?

I will upload pictures of It. I really can't rule of moisture that has cause corrosion. I'll take another look with a flashlight. And check the male end but the female end on the board all look really good and clean.. but then again it's the whole passanger side. And that's more likely a control unit. If it was just one. I could see maybe a diode for the brake and running lights that could cause it if the passanger side is separated from the driver. Idk I feel like I'm running out of options

could it possibly be something from the steering column that caused a short?

which multiple issue it could be, only thing i could think of is a wire harness was pulled which you adjusted the steering column , but it would be the line that runs to the steering column and the brake light pedal. Never heard of that issue yet.

Electrical items are really very difficult to diagnose. There is a fuse for the brake lights but since it covers both sides, it's not likely to be the issue. It could be a ground issue. An intermittent ground could cause erratic symptoms. The other possibility is corrupted software in the Body Control Module which controls all lighting. This would require a re-flash at the dealer to correct. Please let us know how your troubleshooting progresses!
