I wish I had a temp gauge!!

But from I remember when I had my R53 it was about 5-10 min, depending on the time of year.

On the r53/r50/52 without the "chrono" pack it is a dummy guage...
It ALWAYS reads the middle once warm, till the computer says too hot, the it maxes out..
No real temp matchs the "middle" just acceptable operating temp.....

iIt's not a "dummy gauge". It may not be accurate, but it's functional. On most cars the temp gauge works the same way. It still allows you to see if the car is getting too hot before the "temp" light comes on.

My temperature needle hovers just under the halfway mark and takes about 5 minutes from cool down to get there.

Temp gauge in the middle (half way up) means the coolant temperature
is between 75C and 120C.

For us yanks that means the same temp gauge reading can actually mean anything from 167° to 248° Fahrenheit.

This is why the comment "it's a dummy" gauge was made, and partially explains why the Gen2s don't even have a guage.

Yup...
Good to see somebody understands....and can explain it so folks can understand.

If you want more/better info, you need to get a scanguage II (or one of the clones, that plug into the odb2), or a hardwired conventional gauge.

Or you can use the trip odometer secret menu and pull up coolant temp (test 7.0):

I used torque free app on android and an obd2 port bluetooth reader and read 91 degrees C (~198 F) at about 110 mph.

but the question is how LONG does it take to get there, my mini takes 5 minutes, is that good or bad?

I have just changed the oil cooler gaskets and changed out the coolant and it seems to warm up pretty quick, im just paranoid I may have clogged something else up...

btw I get heat in the car fine and no coolant leak anywhere...

Around five minutes is pretty much standard for a Mini, it's all packaged tight under the hood. It's probably the quickest car I ever owned when it comes to heating up.

Mine takes a long time in the winter. Too long I think, like 15 minutes. I wonder if the Tstat is stuck open?
