r56 valve cover bolt torque?

i read on here to torque to 9lbs. when i got to 7 lbs the bolt broke. i know the torque is not critical but wanna get it right so i dont have to keep checking and tightening little by little. also, i was lucky enough to just take the cover off and remove the broke bolt by hand. that could have been a horror show.

Although there is a torque spec. It's more important to do it in a criss cross pattern. I just run them down gently snug going back and forth til it sits flats. Then gently snug. Your only flattening an o-ring then it hits the hard plastic cover to the head. Then just a snug. I've never had an issue.

Just checked Bentley: 10 Nm or 7.3 ft-lbs.

You have to be very careful with those low torque values, and use a dedicated in-lbs torque meter. I've used the following with perfect outcomes, but I'm sure there are other (cheaper) options out there:

Saw this a day late. I did the typical criss cross from center out. :(

One could argue that I posted the link to newtis one day late. :-)

You should be fine if you cleaned the surfaces well, checked that the gasket is correctly fitted and did not tighten the bolts to full torque in one go each.
