figuring out whats wrong with my r53

was going for a stroll and bam my cooper went into limp mode, checked oil...said it was low but I checked it early that day and it was half full so I had her towed home and I put in brand new oil/filter brand new coolant and a brand new coil pack(msd went bad). after I started the car I heard a ticking noise, and its saying my oil is low but when I rev the engine a little the oil light will go off. also I ordered a new timing chain tensioner because I believe this could be part of the problem and a new o ring for crank position sensor because it looks like shes losing oil on me and it looks very dirty there when I took it apart so replacing that trying to clean this cooper I bought because previous owners didn't take car of her at all. so many things to be fixed its crazy

Did this happen after an oil change? You might have lost the spring in the oil filter housing that some Gen1s had.

Check w/ Pelican, ECS & vendors on here. They should get you the proper part or the housing itself.

Good link for future filter above

The drain back plunger is not a separate part and comes with the new filter housing. Which you can do the oil sensor and oil housing gasket repair at the same time with a new one , plus it comes loaded with a new filter. And a new unmolested lid.

There is a manual and and automatic transmission version for the R53 :

automatic transmission oil filter housing 11427563522

OR

Manual transmission oil filter housing 11427562250

Here is the tool for the housing for each oil change. Shorter for easy removal and not to hit the firewall.

36mm 6-Point Oil Filter Socket - 3/8" Drive

thanks

Thanks for the pix, Minsanity. Now I know what to look for if those parts break.

I just picked up a 2002 R53 S, The guy that I got it from said that this noise started about a day after he had the oil changed from a shop that told him they don't work on Mimi's but they would give it a try. This is a shop that he takes his other car to.

Could this take that long to happen (a day or two)? I replaced the tensioner and it still has the same noise... and doesn't seem to be able to rev up. Could it be in limp mode? The battery was dead from sitting so long, so I charged it up before I could started it.

Any help would be great, this is my first Mini and I would like to keep it.
