Overheating. Fuse for fan?

The warning light for overheating came on in stationary traffic and I am trying to find the problem. I suspect the fan is not coming on so I checked the fuses. The fuse block is labeled as FL9 for the fan - that fuse looks OK but I have not yet put a meter on it. What is odd is FL11 is labelled as 50amp for the engine and that fuse is missing. There is also a label for a 30amp fuse in F8 for the fan but I have a 40amp fuse in that slot. This all makes me wonder how accurate the fuse labels are. What fuses should I check for the fan? Thx

I checked the Bentley Manual and it says FL8: Dynamic stability control, 30 amp fuse, FL9: Engine cooling fan relay, 50 amp fuse; FL10 Windshield heater relay, 50 amp fuse; FL11: not used, no fuse.

I'd get both the Bentley Manual and a multi-tester that you can use to test the continuity of the fuses to verify that they are good.

Good Luck!

Thanks. I have checked the fuses and they are all OK. What is the next thing to look at to figure out why the fan is not coming on? Is there an easy way to check the relay? Thx

I had the same problem with my Mini last year, the fan never came on even in 100 degree weather at a stop light. It turned out to be the thermostat housing, the ECU is programmed to activate the fan once coolant temperatures reach a certain point especially after you shut off your engine, my fan never came on like it's supposed to. The ECU was sending the signal to the fan to come on but the thermostat never received the signal. You might check that sensors connections.
