2006 MC fuel injection issues.

I've got my daughters 2006 base Cooper to get it going again. She had taken it to a shop with no start issue. They replaced the fuel pump and she was able to drive it home. Three weeks later I go to pick it up - and it's no start again. This is on top of a dying CVT transmission but that's a whole 'nother story

Anyway, the battery is fully charged. The engine cranks fine and will start with ether. No fuel bleeds out of the fuel rail at the valve. I've opened up both compartments under the rear sheet and it does appear to have a new fuel pump. The fuel filter cap is dirty so I know it hasn't been changed. I've got a new filter on the way. I pulled the multi-connector off the fuel pump and I found two positive conductors both showing 10.5 VDC with ignition on (seems low to me). So at this point I'm thinking either poor ground or bad fuel pump relay. Am I on the right track?

A post on this site said the fuel pump relay is located K96 passenger compartment fuse box, correct?

I'm unable to load wiring diagrams from BMW. Does anyone know where the fuel pump circuit is grounded?

Thanks guys!

Thanks!

If I recall right....
I remember a couple folks who had similar issues after changing fuel filters...
Issue was everything as (from memory) not seated/pushed into position quite right.result was little/no psi in fuel pressure....might be worth yanking the pump/filter to make sure everything is installed right.
A couple of folks had more of an intermittent issue with less than half a tank...issue was a few of the intank rubber lines had split...betting ethanol in the fuel killed the rubber...maybe a few bad batches?
Good luck! Heck you have a CVT...you deserve it!

Does the car VISIBLY have fuel in it? Have you tried jumping it with a fully charged battery?

Visable not so much but fuel gauge is pegged after adding 5 gal. to be sure. I'll try the jump off a charged battery tomorrow.

So jumping from another battery didn't help but...
I did get a fuel filter kit and changed that out. Pretty darn dirty it was Also... note to self - always wear glasses when checking fuses The fuel pump fuse was fried. Not buned in two but chared. That would explain 10.5 VDC on the pump connector pins. Changing the fuse didn't bring the pump to life but it didn't blow the fuse either. I suspect the fuel pump fried and took the fuse out with it. I'm getting a new pump today. Fingers crossed

Success! New fuel pump installed, primed twice and fired right up. Changing the pump wasn't too bad. Plugging the in-tank connector, in-tank fuel line and the other(?) tube on top of the pump was a little troublesome (especially wearing rubber gloves). I did realize that the sealing gasket goes in the opening before pushing the pump in as opposed to putting the seal on the pump and trying to squeeze it in .
