Mini Cooper High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) Application Guide

The High Pressure Fuel Pump is a secondary fuel pump located in the engine compartment next to the fuel rail. This fuel pump delivers fuel at very high pressures to accommodate the direct fuel injection design.
Early production Gen 2 Mini Cooper S models had some issues with the HPFP resulting in several iterations of the pump. If your Mini suddenly starts to idle roughly, or not at all, and throws some 'Misfire' error codes, have the HPFP inspected.
The HPFP is driven by a mechanical connection to the intake camshaft with a maximum fuel delivery pressure of 120 bar (1,740 psi) at full load. Idle is about 50 bar (725 psi). The ECM controls the volume control valve in the HPFP.
The Cooper S High Pressure Fuel Pump application guide is followed by the JCW High pressure Fuel Pump application guide.
For the Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter located inside the gas tank, see Mini Cooper Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter Application Guide.
NOTE:
Due to issues with the High Pressure Fuel Pump on the 2007, 2008, and 2009 MINI Cooper S models with the N14 engine, the MINI Factory has extended the warranty on the high pressure fuel pump to 10 years or 120,000 miles. Contact your nearest MINI Dealer for details.
