The passenger side door latch has been acting up. When you least need it, it refuses to open from either the inside or outside. I figured I would take the time today and dive in.
I can't seem to find any thing obviously wrong but don't want to put the interior door panel back on until I have fixed something to make the problem go away.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I have replaced the cable from the front door handle but that did not resolve the problem.
When I looked inside the door, there was a clip laying in the bottom. Any idea what it is an where it goes?
Passenger side lock, if your cable is connected and the inside handle is fine, check the lock mechanism itself , they can get jammed up if not greased or lubricated over a period of time. Hose down the lock in the jam latch section with penetrating oil. Then give a test of operation again. No go , then its your lock. You can inspect the outside handle function also since you are there.
#1 , Here is the passenger side lock. Part number 51200556769
Outside handle. Passenger side. Chrome , stock version. You can check the opertsaion of this handle also to make sure the cable is latched while you are there and the door handle does not stick, when you grab inside part of the latch with the black grip. If its really hard to push in then you could have issues there.
I have to say, ECS has some of the best product photos of the Mini vendors. For this you get the lion share of my purchase. Additionally I like the no sneaking around that you post too the manufacturer's p/n. We are not stupid and can figure it out even without, and you know it. I rely on inspecting the photos carefully before making any purchase, and I appreciate it. It is amazing in this days when smartphone sensors are like 12MP and up, many vendors still giving you a lousy thumbnail image.
For me, no decent photos, no buy. Try to obscure product information, no buy
