R53 Fog Lamp mounting bracket is part of which assembly?
Hi All,
I have a 2006 R53 Cooper S with factory fog lamps. I had a highway run-in with a traffic cone (more specifically the cast metal plate used to weigh down the traffic cone) and the impact sheared off my driver's side fog lamp.
Amazingly, the bumper itself has only some scuffing and it appears that the plastic bumper "collapsed" to absorb the blow and then snapped back to form. All good news except that the fog lamp sheared off the mounting tabs inside. The lamp still works and the fog lamp assembly itself appears to be fully intact except for the plastic mounting tabs it bolted onto.
My question is: those mounting tabs are part of what...? It's not part of the bumper assembly that I can tell, nor does it appear part of the wheel well lining pieces. I'm trying to identify the part so I can replace it and hopefully avoid a $$$$ bill from the BMW dealer!
I'd be grateful for any leads...
Cheers,
Jcd

Here is the factory fog light linstall PDF If you go about half way down through the retrofit , you can see how the fog light housing is installed.
Here is the fog light housings for a better visual. Held in with clips to the core support.

@ECSTuning - THANK YOU
Wow, your response was helpful beyond compare, thank you!
Now I just have to get over the shock that I have to take the whole front end of the car apart because two lousy plastic tabs broke :(
It looks like this is going to be expensive either way, sadly.
Thanks again!

ECS is dead on, have you considered just making your own little metal L brackets & pop riveting or screwing them on?
You should have all the access you need simply by removing the bumper cover & possibly the inner fender liner on that side, shouldn't be to hard to re-allign the housing & any work would be covered by the bumper cover.

Thanks Guys, Glad I could help.
When you get the part off , post up a pic to see is its salvageable. Also hopefully the core support mount locations are good. The core is made out of a plastic fiber resin and under flex can split.
If you cannot fab up a L or multiples L, you can replace it. Sometimes these lights , since they are glass, can get pitted really bad.
Good luck on the repair.

Hi!! I'm still here (sort of... I guess that makes me a lurker though :(
Danniellajoy, I responded to your PM. Thanks for writing
And folks, just to update all on my original story... I ended-up just living with it basically. I always keep in the back of my mind that I CAN fix it myself, but I have not had anywhere near the time to do so (#gradschool) so I've just left it as-is for now :(
Cheers,
Jcd
