R56 Sunroof Rattle- want to avoid a whole new sunroof!
Hello from the UK
I thought i'd post on NAM as you guys always seem to be very knowledgeable about technical issues.
My early 2007 R56 has developed a loud and annoying sunroof rattle- happens over the slightest bump and Im pretty sure its just the rear glass rattling.
When I shut the car door I see the back edge of the rear glass briefly jump up slightly.
I went to the dealers today and they took it for a test drive, they think some of the guides in the casing have had it and I need a whole new frame as they dont do any repair kits/parts.
Anyone on here had a similar issue and managed to bodge it to shut the sunroof up?! It operates ok apart from wind noise but I think thats a common issue.
Any help/suggestions would be great!
Many thanks

Your symptoms are the exact same as mine. The fix was to replace the whole sunroof cassette. I questioned the back glass jumping up at the rear when closing the door and was told that this is normal, even after the repair was complete, due to where the glass is hinged. Sorry I have no fixes for you but wanted to share a bit of info.

There a six of them not four and they are T-25 NOT T-20 as the rest of the interior screws. I say this, because you can destroy the head if you use a T-20.
What you should pay attention to for good contact are the front and rear lips. The middle you can ignore, as there is a secondary seal underneath the glass panel.
Also pay attention to the revised specifications: the glasses should not be flush, but with a small slope, like a spoiler. So the front lip should seat 0.5-1mm under the body, the rear of the front panel 0.5-1mm over the lip of the rear panel, and the back of the rear panel 0.5-1mm over the body. This helps deflect the air and reduce the pressure on the seals.
