Rebuild Supercharger?
Rebuild Supercharger?
I've been searching around some looking for what is done when a supercharger is rebuilt. From what I can find, it doesn't look like much. It looks like one oil seal, and that is about it. Is it possible to do it yourself? I pulled my original supercharger because I was getting nervous. This weekend I pulled the water pump end off to see if it was damaged. (Pics below) I was surprised to see it still had oil (not much, but some), and looked really good. Is there anything else I need to do besides add oil to get it up and going again. I like having a spare around seeing as my second supercharger has over 100k on it, and my wives has over 80k.

I forgot to mention the sc pictured above has over 191,000 miles one it. Are bearings known to go? It seems all I've heard about is the water pump gears going. Do I really need to pay over $800 for a rebuild, or is just refilling the oil good enough? This is only a spare, I plan on servicing the one currently on the car in the near future.

If you are into performance and seeing yourself upgrading to more power, i would invest in the sprintex s/c down the road once your 2 oem supercharger goes. Get the bearings inspected and if they are good then just service it with oil and save the $800 from the rebuild. I myself have 2 superchargers (1 regular and 1 JCW pullied s/c) as spares and thinking of selling all 3 and get me a sprintex for more juice.
