Sun Damage Windshield Cowl

I guess the Oklahoma Sun is a bit destructive on my 08 MCS.
Does anyone know the part numbers and cheaper place to buy some new left and right front cowls. The car has 44K and I doubt warranty would cover the damage by the sun (I guess it was the sun). It is cracking all along the thin edge next to the windshield. Looks like it’s the whole pieces on each side that include the battery access panel and brake fluid access.

The rear MINI logo has also faded.

Cheapest price I found for the rear Wings badge was on EBay. Seller is a dealership... Prestige MINI. In New Jersey, I believe.

You think OK sun is harsh, try high altitude sun here in CO!

I just noticed this on mine as well when the windscreen was replaced. Pretty cheap part actually, and easy to install.

Happens in Houston too. I try to keep mine Armor All'd, but doesn't last that long. I've always accepted the fact that the environment is going to wear on pieces that I will eventually have to replace and/or repaint. Cost of doing business is how I justify it. If you want to keep your car looking nice, sometimes you have to pay.

I've seen that piece wrapped in Carbon Fiber. Haven't seen it in person, so it's hard to tell from pictures if it looks good or too much.

I found these listed for 42 per side on your site.

OkieSnake, I could not disagree with you more. Sun??? My other vehicle is a 2000 with 60,000 miles and there is zero cracking fading peeling. I live in Florida where everything roasts all day. This is disgusting craftsmanship plain and simple.

Could very well be due to water damage as much as UV damage. You let rain water or water from washing sit on the rubber orders plastic bits and you are asking for fading, cracking and/ or peeling.

Just curious, Omission... is your MINI garage-kept?

Just replaced both apron covers in 10 mins. Bought them from Bavauto. I did not need #1 or #6 or #7. I tried to have the dealer warranty both pieces when the MCS was still warranty but they claimed it's from an ice scraper. They quoted me almost $200.00 to replace these.

I'm going to try to use the MINI vinyl and rubber treatment on those parts every other month or car wash to see if it prevents this from happening.

I noticed a hazy graying on mine after only a month or so, maybe from the glass cleaner used on the windscreen, I'm using the MINI vinyl and rubber treatment now too.

So, is there any real harm to simply trimming off the bad rubber seal?

Hey folks,

I have the exact same problem with my 07S. Do I need ALL those parts or just the 2 aprons? Are there any of those plastic connecters that break every time you try to remove them? Also, does anyone know where I can find a DIY manual for that?

These things are super easy to install plus even buying them from the dealership is not expensive. I just replaced mine about 2 months ago. They are around $0 for each side. Also might as well replace them together because it will look wierd with one new and one old.

+1 for the replacement together. Otherwise you will have one that looks allot newer then the other side.

Here is the pics the check them out. Comes with the cover flaps for the battery and the brake fluid access panel.

Plastic nut and hex bolt mounts to the outer side to hold in place. #8 and #7 which you can undo the ones you have and re-install in its place.

OK Sean. I ordered the pair of apron covers from you 6 weeks ago, and I still have not received them. Can you check on the order? I replied to the order confirmation via email as well. Order information should all be there. These should have arrived a long time ago.
