Just installed the brake reservoir side, batter side was replaced couple years ago.
& windscreen was replaced this summer.
The battery side will not lock in, there is a missing lock on the corner of the car side.
But is that an indication I need to replace the plastic under the wind screen?
Seems so.

Its pushes into the seam towards the seal up against the window for the back connection facing the glass, the other two are of course a screw and a nut.

See a page back:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ld-cowl-2.html

The hard plastic portion goes right below in the lower gasket near the windshield.

I think that means I need the strip that is under the window is worn. Where those two bits grab in the rear of the the installation out of sight.

If the strip under the cowl on the lower of the window is torn or damaged it's here : 51312756196

https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/51312756196/

It slides and holds on the bottom of the window with that slot facing up.

Thanks

Thanks for your response; I think what got me more confused was this part on the website:

Anyways, I should have waited for your response, I ordered this one last night:

So it looks like I ordered the correct cowl kit. I'll let you know if any issues.

Yes that's the one, please use our drop down menu as there is a glitch in the fits section on some items and it shows MINI all. We are working on fixing this.

If you need anything else I am always here to help.

Package arrived

I just received mine today. Going to try and install it tomorrow. Looks like I'm going to have to remove the windshield wiper arms to do it, which I have no clue how to do

Done

Just finished installing it. It feels like a brand new MINI.
This is one of the cheapest things you can buy for a MINI and anybody can do it at home.

I also replaced the cigarette lighter socket and now it doesn't jiggle.

I got the same problem & it's all starting to peel off.

2 questions:

1) Do the cowls come with the molding attached as one piece? So 1 is part of 4 or is 1 this separate mounting strip (51312756196)?

2) If 1 and 4 are separate, could I just get 1? The cowls are fine, it's just that mounting strip/molding that's cracking & breaking off.

thanks

If you buy the kit I purchased, you will be getting everything together. The image you posted is just a description, but it's essentially 3 parts (left and right side). The battery cover is attached to the right side cowl, so you don't have to install it. The "strip" (#1) goes underneath the cowls and it's optional unless yours is damaged.
Take a look at my images I posted before.

As posted above #54 post and what also Val P stated the Rubber seal to the window is parts of #3 and #4 and is bonded to the edge and in the kit.

Just noticed that lower rubber seal along the bottom of the windshield is cracking and chunks are missing on my 2012 MINI Cooper Hardtop R56 Justa. Guess I need to replace it like the rest of you, but a little confused on the last couple posts.

ECSTuning - You say above that the rubber #1 is "bonded" to the pieces #3 & #4, but in your post #57 you list the rubber #1 for sale by itself.

All my plastic pieces are just fine, it's just the rubber strip that is bad. Is item 51312756196 the right rubber piece to order for a 2012 MINI Cooper Hardtop R56 Justa?

If the other posters are correct, the rubber piece is held in place by the OEM plastic pieces #3 & #4 with a lip of plastic going into a grove in the rubber. Correct?

Mnay thanks for clarifying.

This might help.

Ignore the numbers here, they are the same part.

This is one part.

#1 in this picture goes actually under the glass and of course under the cowl.
That thing that looks like a strip is used to hold the glass from hitting the frame and water from spreading underneath the cowl.

Yes, the full kit is what you need as it has that bonded rubber that cracks and peals.

#1 is the rubber time that goes under the cowl and you don't see it. Its replaced most of the time with a front windshield replacement

I ordered the cowl from ECSTuning and mine was broken as well. Seems like a fragile piece as noted earlier.

I attempted to repair using this:

It seemed to bond quite well but then it re-cracked while fitting the piece.

Glad you were able to mend it.

Passenger side won't sit flush

I just replaced both sides of the apron and have the same issue with the right side panel not laying flush where it meets the left side panel in the middle. I can push it down, and it sorta "pops" into place, but simply pops back up when I let go. The lower windshield seal was pretty trashed and was not staying in place well, and presumably not allowing a good interface with the new apron. So...
  1. Do I understand correctly that replacing this part should fix this problem and allow the apron to sit flush?
  2. Will I have any issue removing the "new" apron that I just installed without damaging it? (when I pulled the old one, it was a very tight fit and some of the tabs broke in the process)
Side note: My original d/s piece also arrived from ECS with a broken corner, just like the photo above from another poster. It was not packaged well to protect the corner. ECS kindly and promptly sent a replacement (THANKS!), but unfortunately, that one was also damaged in the same place, although to a lesser extent. Rather than go through another return, I used some trim adhesive to glue it together.
