R52 Radiator Connector

2005 R52- I narrowed down one issue to be the fact my low speed fan doesnt come on (and it may have taken out my AC compressor) and am in the middle of replacing the fan assy. I got a dorman from rockauto and got it on friday. I pulled out the old one and noticed that while they look exactly the same the dorman has 2 connectors and mine only had 1. The larger one looks the same that i unplugged from the airbox area. Dorman PN 620-902 is on the box. I went back to RA site and looked at the TYC and that one look to have several wires/looms coming from the center fan while my stock one and the dorman only have a 2 wire loom coming from the fan. So whats the deal with the extra 2 wire connector (One pink/red wire and one green)? I searched the site and couldnt see a thread on this issue? My stock one is made by 'Gate'. Thanks for help.

The extra 2 wire connector (kinda oval if i remember right) is for the ps fan....pre 2005 cars (before the wiring was split for realibility reasons) got the powersteering fan power from the rad fan circuirt.
In 2005 the wiring was changed....when cars were modified by mini, they simply cut the connector off and taped it off, rather than having a second fan to stock.

One thing to note...there is two basic fans sold for gen1 minis...
just be sure you have the right one...mini basicly moved the relay from the fan side (on early models) to the car side....most sites that sell the fan has the option of right car by build date.

If you either post a piccture of the connector, or simply look at the ps fan connector you can be sure....
I just ziptied the extra plug out of the way on my tyc fan from rockauto a few years ago. No issues.
my 2005 was delivered on christmass eve 2004...and the dealer "updated the wiring" that spring sfter i got the ps fan on the bottom of the car stuck from snow/sand. Guess they said the changeovver date on the wiring change was jan 2005 production, just like the airbag changes (to the dual stage with the weight sensor in the seats).

The dealer updated the wiring for some cars as part of a service campaign....was done for cars that needed ps fans replaced, or customers that asked for a bit. One vendor was supplying the instructions on how to do the switch with new ps fans...was pretty simple...power fot the ps fan now, with the mod, comes from a seperate fuse....shared on some cars with the backup sensor if optioned.

I dropped the PS fan down and the connectors look the same so ill tie it off on the new fan. I didnt want to take it out of the shrink wrap and have fitment/return issue. Thanks for the time and advice. Take care.
