Hey guys,

My drivers side door no longer unlocks electronically, not from remote or internal toggle switch. It makes a normal noise when i click unlock but the lock tab doesn't pop up an door doesn't unlock. Locks fine with remote, passenger side door works fine. What gives?

 

my car '04 just developed exact same issue ... help ...how did yours get fixed?

Russel, after 4 months of it being broken, it just started working. Has been fine for ages now.... No idea what happened. Didn't change anything at all, just walked out of the movies one day and instinctively pressed the unlock button on the remote and bam.

 

if your interior door handle doesn't open it either it is probably the door cable. They stretch over use and are pretty cheap and fairly easy to replace at $10. However if you're not comfortable doing the job you could take it to a mechanic and I can't see it taking longer than a half hour

 

the door unlocks by the handle or by using the key, and locks if I manually press down on the button ( just like in the olden days) and will lock by the remote but will not lock automatically once go 11mph, and will not unlock via the remote or the inside toggle

the passenger door locks and unlocks as normal and the hatch will lock and be unlocked by the remote or toggle as normal

as far as problems go it is pretty manageable, obviously, but I hope this isn't a prelude for more electrical problems .....maybe it will correct itself magically sometime in the future??

any thoughts out there??

 

ok ....took the door panel off and lubricated whatever looked like it might help but I did not see much that could be binding,..... no difference ... so I am assuming it is more electrical or the actuator ....but just a thought:

the door lock button lever twists and turns and then presses into what I guess is the actuator .......could it be that the door lock button lever isn't fully pressed into the actuator??

current symptoms:

--key remote .....driver door will usually lock, not always, but will never unlock; passenger door lock/unlock works fine
--inside toggle lock button..... will sometimes lock/unlock driver door but usually not ...but the passenger door lock button works fine and normal
-- the automatic locking at 11 mph no longer locks the driver side, but passenger side locks normally

--- the inside door handle works fine to unlock and open; the door lock button itself works fine if you depress it to lock the door; the key locks/unlocks the driver door manually just fine ; everything else that locks works normally; passenger door, boot, gas filler door

--- the little flat black wallet key will unlock the passenger door and boot with the second try, BUT will not unlock the driver door ... it does lock the entire car though ..... so if I lock my regular keys in the car and take the wallet key to go out for a run, to get back in I unlock the passenger door and then have to reach in to pull the driver door inside handle

 

Intesting. I took my door panels off and didnt see anything physically broken. Weird thing is.l.. mine broke for 4 months and one day just worked again. No new battery or ecu reset of any sort. Just came out of a store, clicked the button instictutally and it worked again.

 

so at first, the driver door even though it stopped unlocking would still lock via the key remote ..... then sometimes it would lock, other times not,....though the passenger door will always lock or unlock


now though the driver door never locks, or unlocks, with the key remote..... it does not automatically lock either at 11mph....it did before .... so symptoms seem to be increasing

i remember reading on another thread here that someone simply pushed something in someplace, as something had disengaged ....... the lever of the door lock button swings around and goes into the actuator ( I guess ) .....could that maybe needing to be popped back in?? I did not want to press on it so have not tried that yet ....any ideas out there???

ok, here's the latest on my driver door lock problem ....keeps on increasing. When using the regular key the door still locks and unlocks with no problem .... and until recently, the flat wallet key would not unlock the door BUT it would lock it ....now it does not lock the door anymore either, though it locks the passenger door .... so yesterday when I went for a run, to lock the car I first got out of the car and closed the door, then went around and opened the passenger door and reached over and pushed the lock button down on the driver door, then shut the passenger door and walked around to the driver door and used the wallet key to lock the passenger door and boot.................after my run to get back in I had to do the reverse , so the wallet key into the driver door to unlock the passenger door, then went in by that door to pull the handle on the driver door to unlock the driver door...... a bit of a pain but the MINI can be quirky.............

so, since the real key works but the wallet key no longer works I am thinking that this is more of an electrical/computer problem rather than a mechanical problem .........HELP ...are there any thoughts out there for me????

 

well, now the driver door has suddenly started to lock with the key fob ....hadn't worked for a while, but the unlock still does not work with the key fob

 

Mine won't lock or unlock on the drivers side using the key fob. When using the interior toggle neither work now. So to lock my car I use the key or the passenger locks when I hit 10mph.

 

Sounds like you need a new driver door lock actuator. this is a very common failure.
