Turbo oil banjo bolt & P28AE

Bolting my 2007 R56 back together after removing the head (burned valve). I have 2 issues.

First is the oil line to the turbo. It has a banjo bolt fitting. I haven't gotten the car to run yet, but it starts momentarily, and that's shown that this fitting is not oil tight. My problem is that the fitting swivels and slides, and I'm not clear if that is normal or it I managed to damage it when I disassembled it. Opinions please on the nature of how this fitting interfaces with the tube. Just for clarity, I installed with the 2 copper washers and the leak is where the fitting meets the tube.

Second problem is this code: P28AE Volume Control Valve Signal. I'm hoping that this is simply a sensor that I failed to reconnect (fully.) Any guesses which one?

Looks like a failed o-ring on the oil line, no doubt exacerbated by me having to remove the turbo, earlier. So I'll be getting a new line. Still looking for the answer to my code and also wondering if the car is refusing to run for more than about 1 sec because of that code or is that a sign of something more insideous?

I know that on Volvos that code relates to fuel volume control. I don't know if it's the same error on Mini's or not.

You mentioned you removed the head, so it sounds logical it could be related to fuel volume...

Seems consistent with the brief running time before it dies as well.

Hope that helps. Keep us informed!

Fuel rail was definitely emptied. I wonder if there's a burping technique for that device. Or the connector that goes to its sensor

Also, I do not have any exhaust connected, beyond the downpipe, if that could throw the code. Trying to get it running to get the car back on my lift and add Alto exhaust.

Karl, what type of scanner are you using?
Because that P-code isn't provided in the Bentley Service Manual.
Would love to help with searching for the reason for the fault, but it's not coming up on any record.

If you can grab hold of a approved MINI-protocol scanner (like a Bavarian Technic) and rescan.

Alta AccessPort. It has a code reader/reset built in.

The Accessport has codes that don't necessarily apply to the MINI as it has generic P-codes for other platforms loaded.
If possible, do locate a more specific scanner and see what exact fault(s) are current.

MiniDeLux's hint was a big help. I missed the connector on the bottom of the HPFP. Car now starts and runs without codes. Big thanks for all who read and responded!

And now when someone googles that code, the answer is: CHECK THE BOTTOM CONNECTOR TO THE HPFP, WHICH IS THE SHINY, ALUMINUM UNIT ATTATCHED TO THE HEAD TO THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VALVE COVER AS YOU FACE THE ENGINE. P28AE Code solved.

That P-code is a generic and so manufacturer specific. Probably he needs an OBD-II scanner specific for Mini.

I took a shot since I know Volvo also uses PSA engines like the Mini and I knew the error for the Volvo cars.

Excellent, glad you got it sorted!

Good choice of colour for that Mini of yours!

Great find - that's a great educated fix.
