Hopefully these pics help. The first 3 are from the letter I received from MINI. The last is a screenshot of the Mini Reimbursement site with the Thermostat option.

Have not heard anything yet, put my old 2007 N14 in and my 2012 N14, neither showed up. Maybe it's just certain years?

Hmm, maybe it's just for 2010 models? Mine is a 2010 R56 JCW. The letter didn't specify anything about specific years or models, it just stated my VIN.

Mine went at about 90k on my 2008 turbo. Leaked at the seams. I bought a replacement assembly from Rockauto (boo, hiss) and so far, so good. Follow the replacement steps on the forum and you'll be fine. Don't inadvertently pull out the plastic pipe that slides into the back of the water pump. Small hose clamp pliers will help a lot.

2008 Clubman S... denied. Started throwing the P0597 codes and called about it. Says my car doesn't have the problem so this warranty doesn't apply.

Even though the t-stat was replaced once under warranty already.
And needs replaced again (70k miles).
And it is the same exact part that's covered in other vehicles by the warranty.
But mine doesn't have the problem this warranty covers.

Update: Anyways, got the t-stat replaced. Had to replace the water pipe as well. It pulled out of the pump and the end split off right at the o-ring groove. Had to pull the intake manifold then to replace it & ended up doing another walnut media blast on the intake valves. No codes since.

Update: The leak was the thermostat and upper radiator hose. Not the water pump. So nothing was covered under warranty. I went ahead and had the work done.

Of course they found a failing transmission seal which was leaking. So I had that repaired too.

They wanted $235 to change the sparkplugs?? And $80 for an oil change. I passed on those.

I also have a warning that the left front indicator light is failed. So they replace the right one for free and said I wouldn't have that problem any more. Driving home last night the warning triangle was still lit and I still have the problem. Going to call and complain.

Thanks to all for their responses and helpful hints. Hopefully thermostat will show up for my year Mini.

I have the 2012 Cooper S and changed out the thermostat housing a few months back at 45K miles. About 2 weeks ago I noticed coolant on the floor on the other side of the engine. Parts arrived from ECS today with a new water pump and belt. I will tackle that this weekend.

I haven't seen any letter.

You might want to call the dealer and check. I have a '12 Cooper S, dealer swapped out the pump a couple of weeks ago under the water pump extended warranty.

Good idea. When I took my R59 in, the dealer checked and said the water pump would be covered but not the thermostat. Go figure??

Yesterday, the dealer replaced the thermostat on my 2012 R56S (N18 engine) under the California 7 year / 70K mile emissions warranty. I was getting P0597. No fuss, no debate, the dealer (Stevens Creek Mini) took care of it, no hassles.

If you're in CA - check your warranty booklet, thermostat is explicitly covered.

Just had my thermostat housing replaced this week... did not know there was an extended warranty, although, my 2007 looks like it aged out.

Thanks for posting! My car is CA registered. I checked my warranty book and it is indeed covered. My car was manufactured in late 2012 as a 2013 model. I'm going to contact Mini USA and ask them why i was charged by Irvine Mini to replace the thermostat.

I'll post the results. Let's hope for a reimbursement!

Mine had an electrical/functional failure (P0597 is Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Open), based on some other threads here you may not get extended or emissions warranty coverage for leaks. Also see post #476 in this thread.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Thanks for the heads up. Let's see if Mini responds.

Replaced at 50k on my 2011 MCS R56 with trouble codes P173B + P0128 (link to my thread)

Just dropped it off again my LM to get diagnosis - hoping for the best.

On to my 2nd thermo in the past 3 weeks, possibly being replaced by the dealer as it seems to be a faulty thermo the first time.

_____-

3rd Replacement is holding up so far, thanks for insights!

I replaced my thermostat housing about a little over a year ago. I bought my 2010 R56 MCS with 50k miles on it, so I don't know if it had been done before. I replaced mine around 55k miles. I can't remember where I bought it from, but I think I paid like 130 for the thermostat. You can find one for like 40-60 bucks from parts geek and other places. I was too scared to by the less expensive one, so I over paid for peace of mind. Plus I paid an additional 75 bucks for the water pipe that goes across from the thermostat to the water pump. So I spent about 200 dollars in total. After replacing the thermostat I still had coolant leaking from the resivor. I bought the cap from amazon, but the one i bought was crap. So sent it back and bought one from mini dealer for 50 bucks (yikes!), but coolant is not leaking from the resivor anymore, so I guess it was worth it. I still have some coolant leaking and I think it is from the water pump. I have the part to replace the old one, but I've been too lazy to do the job because you have to pull off a lot of stuff to get to the water pump plus you have to remove motor mounts and jack the engine up a bit to get to the water pump. But if you need to replace your thermostat it's not difficult and fairly inexpensive if you do the job your self.

2013 mini cooper countryman. Just got this code over the weekend. Also turned 110,000. so if I read this thread correctly, this could be covered if its the thermostat?

I received the letter in December I think.
